About All That Comment Spam (Or: The Future of Lincolnite)

By: Mr. Wilson on September 21, 2011
You may have noticed that comment spam has increased lately. I try to delete it as soon as I can, but I don't always catch everything. I apologize for the inconvenience it's causing. You also may wonder why I'm not doing more to prevent it in the first place. I am, but not in the way you might expect. Lincolnite is receiving a complete overhaul. It's on a new server running updated software and sporting a completely new look. Among the new features is a new comment system that I'm coding myself. Feel free to toss in your feature requests, comment-related or otherwise. I'll have more to say about the new Lincolnite as it develops.

I used to love in the comment section when newer replies were in a light shaded color.

Props to you for maintaining Lincolnite. I love this blog!

Good call. I can’t even remember why I turned that feature off, but it’s definitely something that should come back. I had actually already planned a listing along the lines of “comments since you were last here”, but I forgot about coloring the comments themselves.

Used to have a huge issue with this.  Akismet is a simple plugin for wordpress and blogger based sites.  I would suggest wordpress over blogger as it has been rumored that google my dump it at some point.

“Akismet has protected your site from 49,934 spam comments already.”  Just a little stat from my site…yep you never will see those almost 50,000 spam comments on there.  Well over a manageable amount of spam.

Maybe you should open-source the new comment plugin, who knows who might get involved then…

Actually it will be released as a commercial ExpressionEngine addon.
