See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
I just saw that, too. Shocking. I guess good, but nothing has had much luck in that space. I would think if anything would work, Misty’s should do it.
Good news! Glad to have an option on the south side of town that isn’t really being met by any of the other restaurants.
Regarding the Grow Lincoln Team this a.m.: I would have thought they would be a bit more aware of the goingson at the new Haymarket hotel. They commented that a $13 million building permit was pulled last week. Then Robin stated that she thought work was underway—demo work or something she thought. Demo work was done months ago (if not more than a year ago) and the space was used as a parking lot. Actually, work is well underway. I expect we’ll see structure rising any day now. The comment also was made that it’s going to be a full-service Marriott. I don’t think that’s accurate either. Unless something’s changed, it’s always been planned to be a Courtyard by Marriott. Nice, but not a full-service Marriott. And they really were none too sure where it’s being built. Though, I think they did finally settle on the correct location (across the street to the east of the post office). I understand they can’t possibly have their fingers tightly on the pulse of Lincoln’s business scene, but as a business show, they ought to have their info a little more buttoned up. Now, I wonder if they can find out if Speedway still is planning to build the Hilton Garden hotel in the block south of the new Courtyard? That site’s been demoed for a long time, too, with nothing yet happening.
I do appreciate their efforts and enjoy the bits of information I pick up while listening. I don’t usually catch the show on Saturday mornings, but listen to the podcasts, which, BTW, could stand to be more frequently updated.
I appreciate their work, too, but it’s often behind. They posted on Facebook about the Game Room store going into Edgewood in the last week or so. That store has been open for at least a month.
Several weeks ago, they had on the show the developer that brought in Trader Joe’s. He said that a deal is done to bring in a new business next to Trader Joe’s and that the new business would create an even bigger buzz than Trader Joe’s. Anyone hear anything more? My guess of something that could bring similar buzz: OfficeMax out, Best Buy in?
Next to Trader Joe’s? I’ll interpret that to mean any of the storefronts along that east parking lot, all of which are currently occupied. Best Buy has been rumored pretty much since Southpointe first opened, but the OfficeMax spot is on the small side. Besides, I’d be surprised if OfficeMax would willingly vacate that spot—anybody know if they are having financial troubles? Same question for Michael’s.
The other locations are even smaller. How much space does an Apple store need? Sure a restaurant like Cheesecake Factory or P.F. Chang’s wouldn’t go in there. I can’t think of too many other buzzworthy businesses.
Here’s the quote (from Eschliman Commercial Real Estate Facebook page): “Developer for Trader Joe’s announced on Grow Lincoln that a new store will be coming next door in March.”
I do believe BestBuy is going with smaller locations. Probably not as small as the OM space. I’m just grasping at straws. If he’s serious about it creating more buzz than Trader Joe’s, it’s got to be pretty big. Personally, I’d get much more excited about a BestBuy than I did about Trader Joe’s. I’d take an Apple store, though.
So Modern Monks beer on tap on the south side of town. Yes please.
