A Meal at Grandmother’s

By: Mr. Wilson on August 6, 2007
The Missus and I are big fans of Grandmother's on 70th and A. We ate lunch there yesterday with a couple who had never been there before. We all really enjoyed our meals. The Missus and I always do. I rarely hear anybody talk about Grandmother's, or G-ma's as we call it. Their Sunday brunch used to be the talk of the town; yesterday, there were several empty tables throughout the noon hour. Have folks forgotten about it? For the record, my two favorite menu items are the hickory bbq bacon cheeseburger and the "super nachos" (good as an appetizer or an entree). You can't go wrong with either one. The Missus prefers the quiche.

My parents used to take us when we first moved here.  However, whenever they cheaped out (silverware was downgraded to Denny’s quality, etc.), we stopped going.  It had turned into maybe a half step above Village Inn. I haven’t been there in over 10 years.

I went there once, years ago, and it was OK but I don’t remember anything spectacular about it. I think it’s time to try it again, thanks to your suggestion.

The brunch is pretty cool.  A bit pricey.  But who can argue when there is all you can eat bacon.

The wife and I used to work at the downtown Misty’s and many folk came from G-Ma’s to work there.  Always heard good things about G-Ma’s from them.

Their margaritas in the bar are great.  I haven’t eaten there in years thought might have to try it again.

Went there last night with the folks who were visiting from Seattle. Great food, although the kitchen undercooked the steak we ordered. It was ordered medium well and came out medium rare. We sent it back but it was still very rare when it came back. Not the waitress’ fault and she comp’ed that meal, which was nice.

I had the fried chicken, which I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was skinless. It was great.

I would definitely go back and I am now craving their Sunday brunch.
