20 Questions: Snow Day Edition

By: Mr. Wilson on January 6, 2010
It's a snow day! Let's play another round of Twenty Questions. Here are the rules:
  1. The answer is related to Lincoln.
  2. The questions should be worded so they generate a yes/no answer.
  3. Each person may ask one question at a time. After your question has been answered, you may ask another one.
  4. Ask your question as a comment to this blog post. Do not ask your question as a reply to another comment (i.e. a "nested comment")
Ask away! Answers so far:
  1. I don't know if it is southwest of 48th and O.
  2. It is a person.
  3. The person is not a government employee.
  4. The person is not female.
  5. This is a single, specific individual.
  6. This man is still alive.
  7. This man is not a business owner (as far as I know).
  8. This man is or was a public figure.
  9. This man is retired.
  10. This man lives in Lincoln.
  11. This man was not an elected official.
  12. This man did not work in media.
  13. This man worked for LPS.
  14. It's Phil Schoo! Good work, Fletch.

Mr. Wilson
January 6, 2010 at 4:44PM

Seeing if I have the same problem as Nikkidemas by trying to post in a new thread…

2. Is it a person?

A: Yes.

Is the person mobile?

Fletch
January 6, 2010 at 4:45PM

Scratch that. I withdraw my question, if that’s within the rules.

Is he/she a government employee?

Mr. Wilson

Today makes me think it’s Old Man Winter!

This was a good question. Susan Gourley, what with Mr. Wilson’s inflatable weenie and all, would have been a logical, but too obvious choice. LOL

Is this person female?

Mr. Wilson
January 6, 2010 at 6:18PM

4. No.

Fletch
January 6, 2010 at 6:39PM

Are we searching for a specific, singular individual? (As opposed to a collective, or omnipresent group, that is)

Mr. Wilson
January 6, 2010 at 7:04PM

5. Yes.

Is it a member of the City Planning Department deciding that piles of snow around the city is not compatible with the overall city/county comprehensive plan and therefore must be removed.

Is this man or was he ever a public figure?

Mr. Wilson
January 6, 2010 at 10:08PM

8. Yes.

Fletch
January 6, 2010 at 10:39PM

Is this man retired?

No question yet, just posting a comment so I can be notified of future comments.

(Side note, that would be a nice feature of the site?)

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 2:03PM

9. Yes.

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 2:16PM

Indeed that would be nice. One of these days I’ll get around to redeveloping this site. One of these days. ::sigh::

Does this man still live in hometown proud Lincoln, Nebraska?

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 3:23PM

10. Yes.

Nikkidemas
January 7, 2010 at 3:41PM

Great question, Fletch.  Now I’m wondering if he DID work for the government or if he DID own a business before he retired…

Moses

You say the man is not a government employee, and is retired, and is a public figure.  Was he an elected official?

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 4:09PM

11. No.

Nikkidemas
January 7, 2010 at 4:15PM

Did this man work in media?

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 4:20PM

12. No.

My first thought was “Oh, she thinks it’s Mel Maines”. Was I right? (And did I mutilate the spelling of his name?)

Nikkidemas
January 7, 2010 at 4:24PM

He was one idea…but I thought maybe someone from radio or the LJS too.  Unfortunately, Mel Mains passed away a few years ago, so #6 eliminated him as a possible answer anyway.

Fletch
January 7, 2010 at 4:25PM

Was he at LPS?

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 4:29PM

13. Yes.

Fletch smells blood…

Nikkidemas
January 7, 2010 at 4:36PM

Could be Phil Schoo.  If so, you were close with that Susan Gourley remark earlier, Fletch!

Fletch
January 7, 2010 at 4:55PM

I was going to ask if he had a school named after him next… but let’s just ditto Nikki’s - is it Phil Schoo?

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 5:13PM

14. Yes!

Good work, Fletch! With the Susan Gourley comment earlier, I thought you guys might squeak this one out in under 10 questions. Still, 14 is pretty darn good; the best yet, I believe.

Actually, Ms. Gourley was my original candidate, but I knew that would be too easy. So I went with Phil Schoo, The Man Who Never Called Off School (or so I thought when I was a student).

Good teamwork again, gang!

For those of us who never heard of Phil Schoo?????

Nikkidemas
January 7, 2010 at 5:25PM

For those of you who never heard of him - I hope you enjoyed your snow days. ha!

Moses
January 7, 2010 at 5:27PM

I have lived here since 1992 and have no idea who he is, or was.  Must not have been obscure to you, but he is to me.

Gene
January 7, 2010 at 5:32PM

He was the superintendent of LPS before Susan Gourley.

Mr. Wilson
January 7, 2010 at 5:34PM

Phil Schoo was LPS Superintendent from 1985 until 2004. He’s even got his own school now. That’s right: Schoo School. I can hear the poor kindergartners: “How come ‘Schoo’ is pronounced ‘sko’, while ‘school’ is pronounced ‘skule’? Spelling is hard.”
