1, 2, 3 Strikes ... and Pass Out

It's off to the ball diamond for me right after work today. I'm taking the plate in the first game because my partner will show up pretty much at game time; I'll have the bases in the second game. It will be interesting to see how I handle the heat. I did the plate in a game on Tuesday in Papillion and I survived, but every time I bent over to brush off the plate sweat (almost) literally cascaded to the ground from under my cap. The temperature is supposed to be even hotter tonight. Yeehaw! The heat must not have bothered me too much on Tuesday; I heard hardly a peep about my strike zone, and I was described to my partner by both teams' coaches as "consistent." That may sound like faint praise to you, but to an umpire that's pretty good. I watered my front lawn last night and this morning for the first time this summer. I'm following the advice of an article I read online. I let the grass grow fairly tall, I never mow off more than 1/3 the length of the grass, and I only water when the grass shows the first signs of distress. Then I put about one inch of water down, in two 1/2 inch batches. I'm not sure how well that technique will work throughout the summer, but my grass is thicker than last year, and the roots seem to be fairly strong. My lawn can't get too much worse, so anything is worth a shot. Does anybody out there have a bunch of dirt they want to get rid of? I need lots of fill dirt. I'm talking truckloads here, not just wheel barrows. But even a cubic yard or two would be a great start. Anybody?
