What’s Your Walk Score?

By: Mr. Wilson on July 15, 2007
Just now I stumbled across a cool website that calculates a "Walk Score" for your home. A Walk Score is a measure of how easy it is to walk to businesses and services from your home. Our place at 625 Elm Street (that's near 48th and Highway 2, by the way) score 68 out of 100. How does your home score?

You will all have a hard time beating me - I scored 6. Yes, one digit, less than 7. Not a typo. Maybe I could have a column here called “From the ‘burbs” since I am one of the only non-downtown centric posters, and clearly I live near nothing. And I am in the city limits.

I scored a 58/100.  There actually is quite a bit of stuff within walking distance of here.  I wish I didn’t have to drive to work and the gym. :(

I got a 58, but I disagree. I could go to weeks at a time without driving if I wanted. It missed the 2 nearest grocery stores (Oriental market and whatever that one across the street it.)

I got an 82.  Being very close to Mr. T, I’d love to know where his nine extra points are coming from?!

I have gone months without driving.  This is helped by the fact that my jobs and apartment are all in my three-mile-diameter “bubble.”

You know Sarah even though I love living in near south and wouldn’t change neighborhoods, I still can’t help but think how much more potential DT has that just hasn’t been tapped into. Yes I know I will be accused of being yet another downtown centric fanatic, but still - for a city this size the DT could be so much more than what it is now.

A decent grocery in downtown would be a much-appreciated addition to the neighborhood, for sure.

Nice website, I might have to adopt it as one of my “Websites Worth Watching” for this week.
