Overheard in Lincoln

By: Mr. Wilson on June 12, 2009
Every now and again I like to get a giggle from sites like Overheard in New York and Not Always Right. But even more fun that that is hearing bizarre conversations in real life. People really do say and do the darndest things. Like the time I was walking down the hall at Southeast High School and I overheard one teacher say to another, "I are smart I are. Good kidneys." That non sequitur was so jarring I still remember it some twelve-plus years later. Another example happened to The Missus just the other day. She took Robbie and his friend, Collin, to McDonald's for lunch. Now, most of you know that Robbie is black with dark curly hair. Collin, on the other hand, is a pasty white kid with fiery red hair. So what did a passerby say when she saw Robbie and Collin together? "Aw, how cute! Twins!" Astounding biological improbabilities aside, at least she was being open-minded. What are some of the wackiest things you've overheard in Lincoln?

“Smart Chicken” is a pretty much local thing, so when I first saw the Smart Chicken breasts at Ideal Grocery, I asked, “What’s a Smart Chicken”.

The customer next to me jumps in with “They can’t be that smart… they’re in a meat case!”
