Hagar is Horrible

By: Mr. Wilson on October 12, 2007
I got a kick out of reading Hagar the Horrible in today's Journal Star. It's really an awful comic, and today's strip helps demonstrate just how awful it is. In fact, it's so bad, the editor couldn't even be bothered to read the strip to catch a rather obvious error. Well, maybe not that obvious. The Missus didn't catch it, but I think that's only because the strip instantly lulled her to sleep.

Although I enjoy MOST of the comics.  Isn’t it about time that they be revamped a bit???  There are a couple of strips that could use possible deletion.  I can’t recall the last time this was done.

I must be thick - I can’t find the error, either.

Same here—not funny, certainly, but I don’t see a typo or anything. What am I missing?

“What do call…”

Alrighty, then.

The one I’m looking at online says “What do you call…” so they must’ve caught it at some point.

I was bothered when they took Mary Worth off the page.  They added Bizarro, which just plain sucks.  I’ve been lobbying for Diesel Sweeties even though I read it online daily, just because I’d like to support a good webcomic-ist.

Oh, and Get Fuzzy.  Maybe Zippy the Pinhead, but I have a feeling that wouldn’t fly around here.

The versions online have been fixed, so if you’re looking there you won’t see it.

Actually this post started off as a “Why are so many comics so bad?” post, but it got halted early.

I took a look at the link.  Frankly, I don’e really see anything wrong with that particular joke.  Just another case of Lincoln being a little TOO conservative.  Perhaps a letter (or email) writing campaign is in order to have the comics revamped.  “Cathy” I thinl had definitely run it’s course.  All that one seems to be anymore is bad whining jokes.  Anybody else have a favorite “bad” one that they love to hate????

I can’t believe anyone would prefer Mary Worthless over Bizarro. However, I’m sure we can all agree The Family Circus became painfully bad years ago.

I saw it online, no wonder. I feel less dense now. Just numb from listening to the football game.

ihatesnow - I used to think the same about Mary Worth, until I started reading Josh Reads, where they are really good at finding the subtext in the comics page.  It gives you a whole new level of appreciation for the “soap opera”-style comics.

And yes.  Family Circus and Garfield are awful.  Just awful.  Also, B.C., but fortunately I don’t have to see that on the JS’s comics page.
