A Few Seconds Toward My 15 Minutes of Fame

I was on ESPN2 ever-so-briefly last night. Would you like my autograph? I take that back: my credentials specifically said "No autographs". I hope some of you were able to get up to Omaha last night to watch the U.S. Women play Sweden at Creighton's Morrison Stadium. It was a beautiful night for spectating -- though an unpleasantly-humid night for playing -- in one of Nebraska's great sports venues. My seat two yards from midfield and 4 yards from the sideline was one of the best in the house. The announced attendance was just shy of 6,500, setting a new stadium record. I hope we can get major soccer events like that to return semi-regularly to Nebraska. It's fantastic for spectators, but more importantly I hope it will help boost the somewhat subdued youth soccer environment in Nebraska right now.

Ha! We were sitting about 20 yards to your right in the front row. When you guys came trotting past after your foray onto the field in the second half, I yelled “Nice hustle, Brent!” but you clearly were in the zone, and were not to be trifled with. Glad LePeilbet wasn’t hurt too badly and your services weren’t needed very often.

Yeah, I heard ya 😊  I ignored you because I assumed you were one of the zillions of referees in the stands who kept harassing us. Had I known it was you I would have stopped to give you my autograph.

I’m glad we didn’t actually have to carry anybody off. That stretcher was crappy—it started to come apart as I carried it onto the field—and I did NOT want to make it onto Sports Center because I helped drop a player on her head.

The back of your head was visible for about a split second. Had we seen your ugly mug that would have been worthy of a red card. 😉
