Next Stop: Final Four

Well would you look at that. The Pinnacle Bank Arena's list of first-year events just got a little sweeter with yesterday's announcement that it will host an NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament regional next spring. I don't think anybody expected that. An opening round game, sure. But a regional? That's a very nice win for the Arena. Now the Huskers just need to do their part to earn the right to play in that regional. If they do, the Arena will be hopping come next March.

See? I told you how terrible this arena idea would be for Lincoln. 😉

I agree. Complete boondoggle.

I think the Athletic Department totally expected to land a regional once the Pin was open. The fan support for Husker Women’s basketball (not Lady Huskers, please) is pretty strong here and if the Devaney hadn’t been such a hole, we probably could have landed a regional earlier. Plus the additional hotel space was a requirement. We now have enough hotel space convenient to the venue. It behooves the Big Ten to have conference teams be host sites as well. I just hope that if the women don’t make the Sweet 16, the fans still attend because the basketball at that level is good and the wannabes have been somewhat winnowed out.
