Roma Victor Redux
Man, I am really getting excited about Roma Victor. I’ve been reading over the community forum and it appears to me that the fans awaiting the game are not only a mature lot, but also have some significant knowledge about ancient history and the Roman world. This excites me because I’m sick to death of MMORPGs where the majority of players are 14 yr old “l33t dUDEz” with handles like “Goku Ironfist” or “Marco Deathman” (i.e. World of Warcraft, Guild Wars).

I wonder how many of those mature players are the same ones who spend hours each day in the Rome: Total Realism forums arguing the exact length of the pilum used by post-Marian legionaries.

Yes, it does indeed look like the same overall crowd. I am thinking on creating a travelling horse breeder from the Alani tribes of the Caucasus area, or perhaps an Illyrian fisherman (both on the “barbarian” free side), depending on the number of characters one can have per account. I would also like to have a Roman gladiator as well. I’m going to forego Britannia since it seems most players (on the free side) are gonna create celts based in the modern UK (the game designers are from the UK too).

Ah, the life of an Illyrian fisherman sailing the Adriatic. I’m trying my damnedest to avoid getting involved with this since school starts in 10 days and the release of Rome: Total War last October was, and still is, enough to keep my free time occupied.

Oh come on Steve. A colleague at work and I have both recently signed up for the commercial beta. And yes, both of us have full-time jobs which often requires after 5 office work and plenty of side projects going as well, not to mention personal lives. Join us.
