Peek at Eastwood’s Movies

Some time ago I posted a quick note about a pair of Clint Eastwood WW2 movies that are supposed to come out this fall/winter, depicting the Iwo Jima battle from US and Japanese perspectives. Looks like an early trailer is available for the public (from Warner Bros.’ Japanese site).

Can’t tell much from this trailer.  Hell, Pearl Harbor looked good from the trailer.  But I have confidence that Eastwood will do well with these movies.  I can’t wait for either.

Good to see Buck Compton from Band of Brothers in another WWII role.  He was excellent in BoB.

Dave K - Eastwood has learned from what the makers of “Pearl Harbor” weren’t able to grasp, in so many ways. “Pearl Harbor” turned out to be a joke - and it was discussed on the internets for months following its release. The gratuitous inclusion of people like Ben A (who I like) unfortunately guaranteed that it was going to be another wannabe Titanic-clone.

If anything I think that this film may be suffering from the expectation that it will be more “violent” than Saving Private Ryan according to initial reactions about the battle scenes depicted. I am interested to see how Eastwood does both the US and Japanese releases of the movies. As well as his depiction of the historical context.  This will be an interesting first.
