No Slouches

After yesterday’s win against Nigeria, Team USA is headed on to fight England this weekend in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. They will miss a match against Germany, who are also top ranked. But England are no slouches either.
Still, I predict US goes on to face Brazil in the semis.
I am sure international football fans in Nebraska (both of you) will be up at 7 in the morning this Saturday to root on our team.

I am an international football fan but I don’t care enough about the women’s game to drive somewhere (don’t have cable) early in the morning to go and watch it. Especially with the UCL group stage to occupy my attention.

This is great news. I am sure that ones of fans will be glued to their sets. (I kid). When do we switch to Metrics?

The main reason I think this is important is because it will keep us on the map in the world of international football. The men’s team did so God awful bad in last year’s cup that we need the women’s team to redeem us.
Dave K - I just go to my gym and watch it since they have ESPN on a few screens. Two birds, one stone.

Unfortunately, the women’s teams carry no clout in the overall picture of international football. Any country would trade a completely dominant women’s team for a UEC and FWC-competitive men’s team. I know I would. The women’s teams can’t do anything to redeem the men’s team. Having said that, I still wish them great success.
My gym has cable and I go there every day, but I definitely can’t drag myself out of bed that early to go to the gym. I would be a complete wreck all day if I worked out first thing in the morning.

Well, Team USA just handed it to the English this morning with 3 quick goals in the opening minutes of the second half. I was away from the TV for a few minutes, came back, and was really surprised.
They will take on the winner of the Brazil/Australia game - which I believe is tomorrow, to enter the finals.
