Goal Pt. 4

FINALLY....I had a wager (albeit for no $) going on when someone would tie World Cup commentary into actual warfare and the U.S.
As noted in the LJS ”sound off” to the question: Have you been watching the World Cup? Why or why not?
No. Soccer is boring and not invented in America. Football, baseball, basketball...they are American inventions. Americanism is the future of civilization. Sports that allude to stagnant or dying cultures...why would people with a winning spirit want anything to do with that? That’s why American team sports are oriented around in-your-face scoring, intimidation, and the thrill of the kill. Soccer and other dull foreign sports are oriented around endurance and finesse. Yuk, it’s like watching chess! Check out these countries’ military strategies versus ours, and you’ll see the same thing. This is exactly why America has to save the world in every major war. We attack and feast on blood, and they break off to watch World Cup!
This one crosses into that gray zone - (clearly) sarcastic or (ugh) real? In anycase, thank you Barry...For being the bestest wiseman on the internets!

I read those comments on there. Each one had a variation of ‘soccer is lame’.
But this wasn’t the first reference to war. Apparently the Italians have gotten some things mixed up in translation: Italy takes note of U.S. ‘war’ quotes

Among other aspects of Barry’s comment, I find it humorous that he thinks baseball represents “in-your-face scoring, intimidation, and the thrill of the kill”.

You know, I saw the first 2 Argentina goals this morning before leaving, and apparently SM was supposed to have great D. But 6-0? Damn....They are good.

It had nothing to do with Argentina being good. I mean, they were good, but Serbia just gave up in the second half. They were little boys running in the field.
