Death Magnetic

I am getting sick and tired of hearing people nitpicking and whining that this album sucks. What do these haters expect? For Cliff Burton to come back from the dead and play on a Master of Puppets part two album? To say this is the best thing Metallica have done in a long time is the understatement of the year. The past two decades have been a nightmare for fans (or what fans are left). I’d say that this is a great return to form. All Nightmare Long is the best song on the album so far for me. Pick this one up.

Where can I download it?
Seriously, though, I’m anxious to hear it. It really has been almost 20 years. When did Justice come out? 87? 88?

You’ve got an e-mail.
To me, in terms of song structure and general style DM sounds like something that would span Puppets and AJFA: very aggressive, lots of tempo changes, and long guitar solos. In fact, there are a couple of very obvious homages to Puppets in DM (the lyrical theme to “The Judas Kiss” is similar to “Leper Messiah” and the “go” yell before the guitar solo in the final song is a direct reference to “Damage, Inc."). One noticeable difference however is in the bass playing for obvious reasons.
At the same time, DM builds off of everything they have already done in terms of musicianship. They are definitely better musicians and man Kirk Hammett does some awesome stuff here.
Strangely, the one video I have seen from the album ("The Day That Never Comes") is probably the least similar to the rest of the songs on it and has more of a black album feel, which to me was the beginning of their 2 decade demise into crap. So don’t judge the album based on that video. This album is awesome! The only thing it needs is more cowbell.
