Common Answers - Local Eats
Common Answers is a contest in which participants try to guess the most common answers to a series of simple questions. The rules are simple:
- Your goal is not to be “right”, but rather to answer in accord with the majority of the other players. For example, let’s say the question is “Name a fish that lives in the ocean.” Even though you know it is not a fish, you may answer “whale” if you believe that’s what most other participants will answer.
- Your score for each answer is the percentage of people giving the same response as you. Your total is the product of those scores divided by the product of the top scores for each question, expressed as a percentage. In other words, a total score of 100% means you gave the most common answer to each question.
- “Equivalent" answers are not treated as being the same. For example, “poodle” and “dog” are distinct answers.
- Minimal effort will be made to “correct” obvious mistakes (i.e. simple spelling errors).
- Do NOT discuss your answers with others or make them public until after the results are posted. Don’t spoil the fun!
- You may only enter once.
The theme for this round is “Local Eats”. It closes at Noon on Friday, August 21, 2009. Results will be posted soon thereafter. What’s the prize? For now, simple fame and glory will have to suffice. If there’s a demand for a more tangible prize I’ll see what I can put together.
