Authorities have dropped charges against a second suspect in the Stock murders in Murdock, according to the Journal Star.

I hope the newspaper considers an in-depth piece about the affect of the arrest and charges, then dropping them, has had on a family so prevalent in Murdock.  I’m sure it has been an emotional roller coaster.

Indeed, I imagine it is incredibly difficult for the families of both the victim(s) and the accused when charges are filed and then dropped. But you know what? I consider this very good news. The prosecutor realized his case was headed nowhere. Rather than sticking with a losing (and potentially unjust) case, he bailed out early. He spared a lot of people a lot of wasted time, energy, money, and tears.

Here’s hoping the criminal(s) are captured, tried, and prosecuted.

mr wilson, I would hardly call keeping two innocent people jailed, and charged with first degree murder for 6 months AFTER the real killers are found, and then allowing the real killers to plea bargain to secong degree murder...bailing out early...and saving money? the multitude of dna tests (very costly) for the purpose of trying to make the evidence fit the theories, rather than the reverse...time?...what would a poor traffic offender have his sentence reduced by for every day in jail? these boys lost half a year of their lives each, with not even an apology from the county attorney, in fact, the charges were dropped “without prejudice”..it’s been a travesty from the very beginning, and a plea bargain that “hints” that the two nebraska boys were somehow involved, while keeping ALL relevant information out of the public domain, is a tragedy for two kids who will always be thought of as murderers, and a community that will never know the truth.
