I’d like to bring everyone’s attention to a local issue taking place. Currently Greg & Melissa Sanford own land on North 56th and Davey Road. They would like to open and operate a Drag Strip for auto racing type events. Not only would this serve as a recreational activity (which Lincoln currently lacks to any great degree), but can also serve as a training location for several of our civil service organizations such as police, both state and local, fire, ambulance along with other aspects such as driver’s education courses.
The website for the organization is http://www.nemotorplex.com and will be coming before the Planning Commission at the City/County Building (right next to the courthouse on 10th) at 1:00 pm on October 11th. I urge anyone interested in showing support for either side of this issue to attend. No matter the side you stand on (or the fence), the local officials of this community need to see that the local citizens do want change and growth. If the Motorplex fails it should be because of poor planning or lack of marketing, but I would hope Lincolnites would support the additional tax dollars coming into the community. Locations such as Heartland Park in Topeka, KS are bringing in 65+ Million to their local economies...think tax break????????
I understand Nebraska is an Agricultural based state, but touism is the 3rd largest industry without even trying. Imagine the possibilities, Nebraskans could stay instate in order to enjoy things such as indoor/outdoor waterparks, amusement parks, concerts and really anything else the imagination could come up with. Look to your new legislature for assistance in funding various types of entertainment and tourism possibilities.
Lincolnites need to unite on this very important issue. Why should Nebraska be known as the ‘drive through’ state? We deserve better than that.
