Is Oso Burrito planning to open a location somewhere in south Lincoln? That’s the latest rumor to come out of my favorite burrito joint. I wonder where the best location would be? I know I would love to see them set up shop in College View.

I would love to see them put an OSO location somewhere in south Lincoln.  I love the College View area and, now that I think about it, maybe it could get some foot traffic from Union College students.  That’s close enough to me to drive to it too.  tongue wink

Or would OSO move towards the High School kids and the all the people over by LSW/Southpointe?  I know the rent would be higher, but that is a bigger market.  Plus, if they were to attempt to put it in the food court at Southpointe… I remember there being an opening there where Amigos and that Pita place were.

Southpointe would just feel all wrong, much like Zesto feels all wrong in that little strip mall by LSW. That’s not to say it won’t happen, but I hope it isn’t true.

Yeah, the Zesto just doesn’t feel right in the strip mall.  The food court would seem like a half-hearted attempt for OSO.  They could, maybe, do a strip mall - the vibe wouldn’t be that much different than the downtown location.  Maybe the increased foot traffic would be worth the try.

There is a building for lease at 27th and Old Cheney that I think would make a great location for a restaurant.  It’s, obviously, too big for only a restaurant, the rest of the building could be office space or something else.  But I’ve always liked this building and this location.  I’m not suggesting this for OSO, this location would be better suited for a sit-down meal.

That building at 27th & Old Cheney seems to have a hard time keeping people in it… I remember all the way back to B104 being in there and then the parade of business going in and out of there.  I think the building has a few issues that need to be worked on, the main being parking.  The only way to get into the parking lot is to go through the back neighborhoods.

I agree that OSO would not feel the same in and around the Southpoint “mile” but I just do not see enough business coming into the Union College area of town… I think OSO is going to be best served staying downtown.  The addition of another OSO would be similar to that of the Mill.  I have never liked what is going on with it in College View.  Oh well, at least I do not have to worry about any of this until Christmas!

Well folks, I’ve got a scoop for you: Oso is starting another location, but not anywhere we’ve guessed so far. Oso recently—within the past couple days—signed a lease for a new location at 70th and Van Dorn, in the spot formerly occupied by Jerusalem Cuisine. I don’t have any information yet about when they plan to open, but apparently it was quite an ordeal just getting the lease signed. The process took five months!

Anyway, congratulations to the Oso crew. It’s great to see a quality local business expand.

70th and Van Dorn, huh? That’s too bad. I was really hoping for something closer to 14th and Old Cheney, so I’d have a viable lunchtime option.

As an Oso lover, I have mixed feelings.  Love that they are expanding and doing well.  Not pleased at the potential waistline ramifications since we live at 70th and Old Cheney.  At least further south would have required more effort.

Look at it this way, ST, you could ride your bike there and justify the calories by noting that the bike ride took care of some of them for you.

Excellent point.  We recently moved to the ‘hood, so it is somewhat new to think of riding to places for lunch, shopping, etc.  As a West O resident, that wasn’t exactly an option much of the time…

Heavy bummage.  A location at 70th and Van Dorn doesn’t really help me that much.  Probably a good location for them though, although I question taking on what I assume will be a healthy lease payment.  Pretty good exposure there though.  Good luck OSO!

thanks for the scoop.

I am split.  I love that they are branching out.  It has been my favorite comfort food for a couple years now.  I am sure how I order stuff is not the healthiest choices, but I feel healthy eating fresh ingredients and getting filled up on rice and beans rather than fries and grease.

The location does bug me though.  not that it is 70th and vandorn, but that it is on the south side of town.  i for one do not think the southsiders deserve such a fine eating establishment.  They should be stuck with the crappy chains, chilis, applebees, macaroni grill, red robin burgers.

I am very anti southside.  Sure the eyecandy is nicer, but I get a snobish vibe from there.  Try and find a pinball machine in a bar down there.  That is my whole point.  In the div-ish bars on the north and near O street you will see pinball machines and homey places.  All the bars on the southside are upscale-ish.

Maybe I am just jealous.
