We finally tried out the Eastside Grill.  It gets one more chance then never again.

Pros:Nicely decorated, Lots of flatscreen televisions, waitress was cute, friendly and quick, food was fast, drink actually had some gin in it.

Cons: Fifteen minute wait when there were 12 empty tables in the place..  Did they not have enough staff?
Meal advertised as accompanied by garlic bread came with a stale whole wheat roll and waitress stared blankly when I mentioned.
Fries with my wife’s meal came stone cold.  Same response.  No offer of replacement or deduction from the bill.

Summary....Would have been very pleasant evening if the food had been better.  We will try different dishes next time and see if we have better luck.  The atmosphere is an upscale sports bar.  The prices were reasonable.  The menu ranges from cedar plank salmon to steaks to hamburgers to buffalo wings to pizza.

Thanks, Moses!

Ha!

I don’t know if Lincoln needs another sports bar, but between their target market (upscale) and their location (few competing restaurants), Dino’s might do just fine. Well, if their food improves, that is.

What was the TV selection like? Is the emphasis more on the food or on the drinks?

They had the complete MLB extra innings package and had at least five different games on the screens as well as ESPN and some auto racing on scattered screens.  One other pro....they have a real live old fashioned shuffleboard table all waxed up and ready to go.  They also were family friendly with video games in the wings for the kids.

Also of note, our new mayor was at the bar with what appered to be a very nice martini................

Good to know!

I usually let other people break in a new restaurant then, after several weeks, I’ll go see for myself after they have worked out the kinks.  You would think that Dino’s would have many of its kinks worked out by now.

Sounds to me like the management needs to give the wait staff the autonomy to comp something in the event of cold fries or missing garlic bread. The blank look is worse than doing nothing at all.

I didn’t realize Dino’s was going to be a sports bar. I’ll probably check it out for myself someday but I’m less enthused about it now. The shuffleboard is intriguing.

Sorry Mr. Wilson, didn’t answer part of your question.  The emphasis was on the food and not the drink, but it was 7 PM on a Saturday.  Later evenings probably shift the focus.

remind me of the location if you will.  Not a big fan of sports bars, but maybe it will impress.  Always craving something new.

Dino’s is at 84th and Van Dorn in the Rockledge (Square?) mini mall.

I’m disappointed that it’s a sports bar.  We have enough of those here.  It looked from the outside that it may be a little more along the lines of Lazlo’s or Fireworks.  Oh well.

It doesn’t matter what kind of food they have there—if they have TVs, chicken wings, beer, and over-charge for the latter two items, they will be successful anywhere in Lincoln (the thing I find most fascinating about Nebraskans is how much they have fun at sports bars paying to get intoxicated and fat).  Like ShopKo and Christmas, sports bars in Lincoln could survive alone on a few weekends in the fall.

I am new to this forum but it looks like a good place to come for info about whats going on in the star city. I felt compelled to add my own comment regarding Dino’s since i have visited the place on a few occasions.  I usually stop in after a round of golf at nearby Hi-Mark golf course and I have to say I rarely have seen the level of service and attention I have received each and everytime I go. If anything they seem a bit over staffed to me but thats fine for the customer. I have tried quite a few appeatizers and the portions were generous and overall very good with the pricing along the lines of brewsky’s and sportscasters. I must admit I have only tried their burgers but they are top notch and my fries were hot to boot. The beer could be cheaper but considering its location its competative with other venues in the area. Overall what I think sets this place apart is the staff and the good vibe that is apparent when you walk through the door, from the greeter to the wait staff to the owners, its just a friendly place to dine at. Also after waiting more then 45+ minutes a few times for my meal at granite city, 15 minutes seems like a dream to me. I plan on making Dinos one of my top stops thats for sure.

I am glad to hear good things.  I live close and intend to give them a second chance.  Anyone can have a bad day and a good lounge and restaurant close to the house is what we would like to see.

Thanks

A couple of co-workers and I tried it for lunch a few weeks back and I was quite impressed. It wasn’t packed, so our service was pretty good. I had the fish and chips and the large pieces of fish were lightly breaded. Very nice texture and flavor. Got sweet potato fries with the meal too. Yummy! Everybody loved their food at our table and I can’t wait to go back.
