Had lunch at Roost today.  Not entirely impressed.  Their thing is various flavors of chicken salads.  http://www.roostsandwiches.com/

I had the Bayou Bandit, a cajon chicken salad sandwich.  Nice flavor, with a bit of spicyness to it.  Yummy multi-grain roll. 

But, I was very surprised at the size.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  In many cases size really doesn’t matter. 

However, when compared to other sandwiches I can get for lunch downtown, Roost doesn’t match up.  I can get something just as good, for the same price, and twice as big, at Jimmy Johns, Pita Pit, even Subway.

I will go back again, to try some of the other sandwiches (I definitely want to see how ‘loaded’ the Mozza-rilla is).  But, I’m not sure if they can last against the competition.

You aren’t the first person to comment on the size-for-the-price issue. With so many good options Downtown—and with more on the way—that may be a serious problem for Roost.

I decided not to make a post about the place cuz I do not like to be negative.

I am no fan of mayo, but the smokey and the bacon I got was really good.  For pert near $7 my combo left me wanting to grab some popcorn to make it through the day.

A bit bigger than a hotdog bun with two scoops of goo, two tomaters, and some shredded lettuce.

My friend and I ate there about a month ago, when it was still warm outside. The outdoor seating is great in summer as it is such a good location, you feel right in the middle of downtown life . My sandwich (I had chicken something? Sorry, don’t remember, it was #2 on the menu I think!) was good but hers not so much. She took the only vegetarian choice they had and it was weird, pretty much just lettuce and tomato with maybe a little cheese…

Their chips are really good! But they DO need to do something about the size, we were both disappointed with how small the meal was for that price. Can anyone point out this discussion to Roost? With so many people saying the same thing, you’d think they would do something about it. Maybe next time I’m there I’ll ask them to check out Lincolnite

Roost is very good! My fiance and I went there a few weeks ago.  I was a little unsure about eating there because I heard that the portion sizes were pretty small.

Roost offers 3 sizes, if you order the small of course your not going to be happy.  I ordered the #1, Stuffed on white bread, and got some Sweet Potato Chips (which are out of this world by the way)

The sandwich filled me up, no problem (and im not a tiny guy).  Prices, I suppose are a little steep, it was about $7 (on the low end) for each of us to have a sandwich, chips and drink.

I have gone to Roost several times since then.  Highly Recommend!

ROOST isn’t for everyone. It’s not for people who don’t enjoy delicious chicken salad style sandwiches. And i use “chicken salad” VERY loosly, its a non-traditional style of chicken salad, WAY less mayo, actually i can’t even tell its there, which is HUGE for me because i HATE mayo. HATE.

I went to Roost right when it opened, and like most start-up resturaunts, things weren’t the best at first. But I decided to give it another try, (something i haven’t done again with planet sub) and i couldn’t have been more happy with how far they had come. GREAT, DIFFERENT sandwiches, with a variety of flavors, they’re sure to satisfy your tastebuds no matter what you crave. If you haven’t tried this place recently - check it out again for the first time.

What makes this place extra special to me is the fact that its a local place.
I love to see chains like Taco Bueno come into downtown lincoln and think they can hang with our great selection of local joints.
Downtown Lincoln’s got burrito’s, pizza, and sandwiches covered...large chains need not apply.

As far as what sandwich to try for your first time? If you’re into spice, i’d recommend the High Plaines Hero. If you have more of a mild sense of taste, go with the Presto sandwich or the Smokey and the bacon maybe.
BE SURE TO GET YOUR SANDWICH PANINI TOASTED—this is something they have added within the last couple of months and its such a good idea, makes the sandwiches soooo much better with a little crisp to the bread.

Roost have awesome Stacies (i think thats the name???) chips, nice and crunchy. Pepsi products for soda.

I have been one of those people who has “re-discovered” Roost in recent weeks and totally agree with you. The first time I went there I thought the sandwich was really tasty but the price too high for such a slim offering. Now that they have offered the “stuffed” version of their sandwiches at a competitive price its one of my first choices for sandwiches in downtown. The presto pesto is incredible. I go there often and also agree that its a place you don’t want to pass up again.
