Why is electronic voting so difficult?

I don’t get it. Why is it so blasted difficult to create a foolproof, functioning electronic voting system? The machines need to do one thing, and only one thing. It should take, what, a week to program a good system?

What am I missing?

I’m guessing what we’re missing is either a non-corrupt government, or non-corrupt corporations, or, somewhere in the middle a combination of the two.  But that’s just me.  Although it does seem like it should be easier than programming an ATM, and we’ve had those for years now.  Can’t they just re-work one or something.  Or maybe robots are the answer…

The radical leftists complained about electronic voting machines because the machines were made by Republicans and they continued to lose elections.  Now that the Democrats have won an election, we’ll see those charges subside, at least for a couple years.

...but do you mean electronic voting, or online voting?  I’d definitely support electronic voting, since filling all those bubbles cramps my hand and takes forever.  Plus it makes me think that if I make any marks outside of the oval or miss a spot in it that my vote won’t be counted.  I wouldn’t trust online voting yet.

The problem is, the people that get the contracts to make these things are not the most competent, just the ones with the most lobbying power.

And then they get paid stupid amounts of money to make something a lot of 15 year olds could throw together in a week.
