What was he trying to say? That’s a rhetorical question, since I got tired of people trying to explain what Kerry was saying back in 2004.
The real problem is not that John Kerry says stupid things. The problem is that he thinks Americans are so stupid to accept his ridiculous explanations for the ridiculous things he says.
Just some spontaneous media analysis: The media will accept and promote Kerry’s explanation that the idiot(s) he was talking about was Bush and his administration. Even though that is almost an impossible stretch given the words he used, they will say we should all be able to figure out what he meant. Before anyone thinks this is reasonable, please flash back to a few years ago, when Trent Lott made his statements at Strom Thurmond’s birthday party. People inferred things (they defined ‘all these problems’ themselves) from what he said and demanded that he resign, instead of accepting his ad hoc explanation. Now they’re going to insist that we accept Kerry’s explanation for what he said, even though his words very clearly said something else.
Either way, it’s Christmas early for Republicans. Instead of the predictable anti-Republican media onslaught that usually occurs in the week before an election, this will be in the news for a few days. If anything, this makes the next week much more interesting.
