The title is ‘tongue-in-cheek’, but that PK requires an explanation.  Everyone other than those in yellow saw a guy simply fall down in the box, definitely not PK-worthy.  I think everyone was happy the attempt failed.  But the make up call later in the half was appreciated. 

And just some LASA ranting here: though I always enjoy playing soccer, this was definitely the most stale season of LASA I’ve yet to play.  With the exception of last night’s game and one other, we won all of our games by at least three goals.  If they continue to charge 80 dollars per session, the league is going to go the way of the Dodo bird in not too much time.  I know a lot of quality players, and a team or two, that didn’t play this session because it’s so expensive.  They want the league to be sanctioned, but it’s time to get real.  I’ve also never encountered so much animosity between teams.  Bricktop are about the only team I enjoyed playing against this season.  The guys on Ropers/Woodhouse and a couple of the other teams just seemed like they came to the field looking to bitch about something.

Oh well.  I don’t have any solutions.  I just hope the league doesn’t degrade any further.

Bah, it was clearly a foul. Was it “PK-worthy”? Well, that’s a topic referees and players aren’t likely to agree on any time soon. But I was extra tired and cranky yesterday—I didn’t get home from 2 matches the night before until 2am thanks to double-overtime, and I’m in the middle of a bad cold—so that may or may not have had something to do with it.

But the make up call later in the half was appreciated.

Honestly, that wasn’t a make-up call. It was simple boobery, due to the factors I mentioned above. But hey, it worked like a make-up call, so in the grand calculus of life I guess it all worked out. I also probably missed one handling call (the one near the north penalty area that several of your guys griped about for a while), but on that one I was blocked by two players’ heads. The *smack* of ball against skin sounded like it hit the player’s face, but judging by your team’s reaction, that’s probably not what happened. As for the other 3 handling calls you guys wanted, one was 50-50, and the other 2 were easy no calls. But then, sometimes we referees think too much like referees

As for your LASA rant, don’t get me started! LASA is nowhere near the league it used to be. I can’t speak to the registration fees because I don’t have a good perspective on a “fair” fee for playing in a league. But there are many other flaws that really need to be fixed. Frankly, I would love to see one of two things happen: 1) the league shuts down for a season or two, causing enough angst among local soccer players that the league re-emerges with new life; 2) a competing league pops up to kill off LASA altogether, or to force it to improve dramatically.

We were complaining a little more than usual yesterday, especially about the petty stuff.  Two of the hand balls were not petty, the others were.  No one from our team showed up to play yesterday, and being 8 points clear at the top of the table probably facilitated that mood. 

If LASA shuts down, it’s done for good.  I would really like to see a new league start under new management and a re-energized player base.  The players are there, they just aren’t being supported by decent organization.
