All Digital Solutions --- a company that I would not recommend doing business with

About a year ago, I decided to sign up for Dish Network. I recall speaking with the salesperson Charles, who told me I could get discounted service after submitting a rebate. On the contract, it stated that the discount would only apply for ten months, and then it would increase to a normal fee. I was not told this by phone, and was under the impression that it the discounted price would extend through the contract term. Nevertheless, I should have read the contract, especially considering that I have been in the legal field for awhile. I also found out that the Dish Network does not provide insurance for “Acts of God” that affect the equipment, so if your homeowners insurance does not cover it, you are in big trouble (a hefty amount). Again, it was in the fine print. I have no real problems with any of the above, except that I feel the company above is a little shady. Maybe a verbal bait-and-switch deal, but I did sign the contract. My mistake still. Buyer Beware.

What I had a real problem with was Charles at All Digital Solutions. When I contacted him to ask questions about the above, he became very irate. He stated “lets cut to the chase.” When I said I wanted to “cut to the chase” and address my concerns, he stated I was not making him any money, AND HE HUNG UP ON ME. This was so incredible, I am still shocked. This man was so unprofessional, and showed such a lack of good customer service skills, I would recommend that people avoid doing any business with him or his company.

I give this 5 stars. It was a fun place to go, and was affordable to everyone. Yes, the movies were older, but it was nice to be able to see them on the big screen. It made going downtown affordable for most of us hard-pressed overtaxed lower class folks.

Thank god almighty the city of Lincoln saw to it that it was torn down.

Bluestem Books is one of the excellent used bookstores in town (A Novel Idea is another). They have an excellent, well-organized selection of fiction and a wide range of non-fiction, all in an attractive (in a used bookstore kind of way) older Haymarket building. The children’s book selection is outstanding. The owner and helpers are truly very friendly and knowledgable.

Manhattan Deli

This morning at work I was craving a reuben from Manhattan Deli. I made my way down to the Haymarket at about 12:30 and was shocked to find that the deli was closed. The doors were closed, it was dark inside, and all of the chairs were up on the tables. Does anyone know if this was just a fluke? I’m hoping that they aren’t closed for good. If anyone has any news on that I would appreciate it.

How many of you eat at Manhattan Deli? Hopefully they are doing OK business, when I’m there it’s not too terribly busy most of the time, but boy do they have good food.

The wife and I are in the mood to try our luck at cooking some seafood. Is Midwest Seafood still open by Smokehouse Deli? I’ve never been to it, from what I heard the seafood is great, but when they moved I remember the LJS had an article about them moving, hopefully they are still in business. If anyone has info that’d be great, also if anyone is a regular buyer there and has suggestions let me know. Thanks!

Furniture Stores

When we moved back to Lincoln a year ago we moved all of our old furniture into the basement and have started from scratch on the main floor. We have had a variety of experiences with a variety of furniture stores. Now I would like to rate and relate my experiences with the various stores. Mostly I just want to vent on my two latest experiences.

The stores we have done business with listed in order of best to worst are:

1. Schaefer’s for Washer/Dryer/Refrigerator. Not the cheapest choice but they were less expensive than several others. We were very pleased with their attitude and service. Things were delivered on time and set-up for us. Everything came without scratches or dings and the salesman gave us a good discount to entice us to buy the package.

2. Nebraska Furniture Mart. Again, service and delivery were very good. A bit too much of used car salesmanship at the store but overall good products at decent prices and everything promised was delivered.

3. Ernie’s of Ceresco. Not so easy to endorse. I like the feel of helping the small town guy vs. the big conglomerate (Berkshire-Hathaway owned Neb Furn Mart). But, difficult to get commitments on deliveries and what showed up was not quite what was ordered.

4. Furniture Row. We only bought a couple of side tables and a coffee table and it was like they were doing us a favor to agree to deliver. When it was delivered it wasn’t assembled. This was not discussed at the store.

5. Slumberland. Dining room set arrived without the right chairs. I volunteered to pick up chairs at the store so they could save themselves a trip. When I arrived the chairs weren’t there and I had to return. When I did return they wanted to give me unassembled chairs.

Am I missing anyone? Similar experiences? Rank your favorites.

New Tokyo Steak

According to the Journal Star there is a new Teppanyaki-style restaurant near 27th and Highway 2 (maybe the old Jax/Bob’s Gridiron location?).

A new Teppanyaki-style restaurant opened its doors last week. Tokyo Steak and Seafood House, 4200 S. 27th St., offers a Teppanyaki experience (that’s where they cook right in front of you), and will also feature a sushi bar in the near future. Hours for the restaurant are from 4:40 to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
