What we know so far
-We know that Tom and Harvey Perlman flew to Baton Rouge, LA yesterday.
-They have interviewed Bo Pelini for the position.
-Buffalo has given permission to NU to interview Turner Gill.
-It is unknown if that interview has taken place, or if one would even happen.
-Tom and Harvey also flew to Atlanta, the home of the private search firm that is conducting the process of finding the candidates.
-Other candidates that have been thrown around are Brian Kelly of Cincinnati, Jim Grobe of Wake Forrest.
-There has been speculation that Jim Leavitt of South Florida, Chris Peterson of Boise St. are also possible interviews. Peterson has said he isn’t going anywhere and Leavitt is a name I just saw pop up in the last 24 hours.
-Speculation ran rampant on a husker message board yesterday that Monte Kiffen was interested in the job. This information was apparently coming from Lane Kiffen, his son and was mentioned on ESPN.
1) Why would Monte leave his cushy job @ Tampa Bay? Especially at his age.
2) His name coming up late in the process leads me to believe it wouldn’t happen.
-A plane, owned by Howard Hawks, NU Regent that left Omaha for Atlanta yesterday was unrelated to the coaching search.
-Tom and Harvey arrived back in Lincoln last night with no head coach in tow. But did say the interview process is incomplete.
-The players meeting scheduled for Wednesday has absolutely nothing to do with a new coach announcement. It is the players annual end of season meeting, one that would be taking place with or without the change in coaches.
I am still going to say its either Bo or Turner. Bo’s team, LSU, being out of the national title picture gives him an excuse for leaving. Who do we thank for knocking them out of the national title picture? Houston Nutt. See people, it all comes full circle.
