Texas did what?

October 24, 2007 at 9:24pm By: D.M.B. Posted in D.M.B. Sports Report

Not only did Texas beat Nebraska tonight for Nebraska’s first loss on the year, but they swept them.  3 sets.  Yeah.  No kidding.

No, I’m serious.

Consider this, before tonights match up with the whornes, Nebraska had won 19 matches.  And had lost all of 1 set during the season (UCLA).  That’s right, Nebraska 57, opponents 1.

A definite head scratcher tonight down in Austin.

First the football team, now the volleyball team. Maybe we need a new interim A.D. wink

I KID!

Did you watch the game? For most of the match, Nebraska looked terrible. Not quite as terrible as Hawai’i looked on Sunday, but close.

lol @ ‘whornes’

Moses October 25, 2007 at 8:43am

“lol @ whornes”???
Isn’t that close to what got Imus fired?
I am no Texas fan but.........

Dave K October 25, 2007 at 8:48am

No.  Imus was fired because he made what was considered a racist remark.

Moses October 25, 2007 at 8:58am

To refer to a group of young ladies as “whornes” is as offensive to many as a racist remark. Myself included.

OK, then fire me from my nationally-syndicated radio show.

Dave K October 25, 2007 at 9:00am

...and D.M.B., since he’s the one that said it.  Not sure he has a radio show though.

I am not familiar with the word “whornes” and I don’t care for it. After a little research, I see that both whornes and whorns are widely-used pejoratives for the Texas Longhorns. Notably, the term is used most often in reference to the football program or to the athletic program generally. Still, even if the intended message is “I don’t like the Longhorns”, it isn’t hard to see why a person might take deeper offense.

There is no list of “banned” words or topics at Lincolnite. Instead, I rely on Lincolnite participants to help keep things civil in recognition of the broad audience Lincolnite serves. With that in mind, I strongly encourage folks around here to avoid this word in the future; it is a word best left to the uncivil wilds of fanboards.

As a reminder, if at any time you have questions or concerns about content on this site please don’t hesitate to contact me at mrwilson at lincolnite.

He didn’t call them Nappy-Headed Whornes. That would have been wrong.

Maybe we should fire John Cook and see if Bo Pelini knows anything about volleyball.

In all seriousness, this is an okay loss. I hate that it’s to Texas, but when you have a team of superstars, maybe they can use one night like this so they don’t start believing all their own press clippings, and they can refocus and win another title!

D.M.B. October 25, 2007 at 10:50pm

1st of all, I definitely was not calling the Texas VB team “that”

I thought I had used that word describing Texas but I obviously haven’t.  (Looking back, I’ve used Tex-ass)

Sorry if I offended anybody but it was never my intention to call anybody anything.  I think Mr. Wilson can back me up on this.
