Oh the possibilities…
Who is our next coach going to be?
Bo Pelini?
Turner Gill?
Another college head coach?
Another college assistant coach?
Shawn Watson?
*gasp*
Bill Callahan?
The more and more this thing drags on, the more and more I think that Tom MIGHT JUST KEEP Bill. Why oh why oh WHY would he keep Bill? Lets look at it this way. Tom, as we all know, is a man of his word. He isn’t part of the “new school”. He doesn’t do the cloak and dagger thing. He’s honest. He’s kind. He’s forgiving.
Could Tom’s weak heart have a soft spot for Bill? Could Tom, after looking at all the evidence, elect to give him one more year? Could he suggest letting go assistant coaches? But see, that’s the thing. AD’s, at least here at Nebraska, don’t get into the business of telling coaches what they should do with their assistant coaches. I don’t see Tom changing that. Could Bill’s 73 points against Kansas St. be viewed as “the system working”. Could our 6 losses be just the result of a tough schedule? 4 games against teams that were ranked at the time. All 4 of which are still in the top 13 of the BCS. And as many 3 of those could be in a BCS bowl, 1 in the national championship. Could clinching a bowl berth cure all? How about the Insight Bowl in Tempe? Back to Shreveport? The Texas bowl?
Am I wasting my time here? Am I just linking all for naught? Was the buyout check post-dated to Monday after the Colorado game when Tom came on board? Does Bill’s actions the past couple of weeks (i.e. not wearing Husker clothing to press conferences, walking past and not acknowledging Tom after the Kansas game, not participating in the post game fight song sing after the KSU game) mean he’s given up? Does Kevin Cosgrove dare show his face in the state of Nebraska after the Colorado game? Will we get a Oakland like blowup after the Colorado game?
As Teddy KGB says in the final climactic scene in Rounders, ”It will be all over soon”

I’m sort of leaning in the direction that Bill Callahan will stay for another year. Especially after Bill Callahan saying that we need to build the walk-on program back up again. But still....
Yes, we lost to some ranked teams but how good are those teams really? Isn’t the goal to be up there REMOTELY near those teams after four years?

I just can’t see him staying. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, with much shuffling of assistants, but his behavior since the SP firing has been disgraceful, and VERY disrepectful to TO. I can’t imagine those are good ideas if you are intent on making a good impression on the new boss.
Why stop wearing the gear? Why give TO the cold shoulder? Why never mention him by name, only as a “higher-up”? Why all the posturing at press conferences about how excellent you are in all areas, and how your system is SO AWESOME, just look at Joe Ganz...?
I would think that if you are a coach, and have the rare opportunity to work under a true coaching legend (ala TO, Switzer, Bear Bryant, Joe Pa, Bobby Bowden, etc.), wouldn’t you try to soak up as much of the good as you could from that person and relish that opportunity? If you were a chef, and could work under the best chef in the country, wouldn’t you see what kind of tricks you could learn even if you already thought you were all that? I know I would.
Sorry for all the rhetorical questions. I just don’t see him staying. I still want Bo, or that Kelly guy from Cinci (?). Please, not Turner Gill at this time.
