March Madness Sweet 16

Only 16 are left and there are a couple of surprises in the tournament.

The lowest seed still alive is the upstart Bradley Braves from the Missouri Valley Conference. They are the #13 seed in the Oakland bracket and convincingly beat Kansas in the opening round and defeated Pittsburgh in the second round. Other than that, the Oakland bracket has gone to form. #1 seed Memphis will take on the Braves in the Sweet 16. In the othermatch up it is #2 UCLA vs. #3 Gonzaga.

Another surprise team is #11 seed George Mason in the Washington bracket. They shocked the defending national champions, North Carolina Tar Heels in the second round and will take on #7 Wichita St. in the sweet 16. Wichita St. defeated #2 seed Tennessee in the second round(an upset I correctly predicted). In the other Sweet 16match up it is #1 seed UConn taking on #5 seed Washington.

In the Minneapolis bracket the only surprise was #7 seed Georgetown defeating #2 seed Ohio St. Georgetown will take on the very impressive #3 seed Florida. Florida, known for early exits from the tourney the past 5 years, have dominated their opponents like no other in the tourney. On the other side of the Minneapolis region it is #1 seedVillanova vs. #4 seed Boston College.

In the Atlanta bracket, #1 seed Duke takes on #4 LSU and #2 seed Texas takes on #6 seed West Virginia.

As for my picks the Pittsburgh loss in the second round was devastating.  They were my pick to come out of that bracket to the final four.  The UNC and Ohio St. losses were also not good for my bracket. I correctly picked 11 of the Sweet 16 but I only have 5 of my elite 8 still alive.

Action kicks off Thursday night.  After this weekend we will have our Final 4.
