March Madness Round 2
The biggest upset of the tournament was definitly Northwestern St., a #13 seed over #3 seed Iowa. Jermaine Wallace sunk a 3 pointer with .5 seconds left to go to give the Demons a 64-63 win over theHawkeyes . In what is likely his last game at Iowa, (he’s the leading candidate for the Indiana job) the Steve Alford era goes out with a whimper.
The scariest moment in the tourney came for #1 seed UConn. Remember when I said that no #16 seed had ever beat a #1 seed? Well Albany came oh so close to pulling off the unthinkable. The Danes had a 12 point lead with 11:33 to go in the second half. In the last 11:33UConn went on a 34-7 run to win the game going away 72-59.
Other big upsets were Bradley upsetting #4 seed Kansas. This is two years in a row that a Bill Self led Kansas team has allowed themselves to be upset in the first round. Last year it was #14 seed Bucknell , this year it was #13 seed Bradley out of the Missouri Valley Conference. The dreaded 5-12 games claimed two more higher seeds. #12 Montana took care of #5 Nevada and #12 Texas A&M ended #5 Syracuse’s dream season.
Another scare on Thursday was #2 seed Tennessee barely squeaking by #15 seed Winthrop.
As for my bracket I correctly picked 21 of the 32 games. Which is about par for the nation in ESPN.com’s tourney challenge. For the first time in a long time, no one correctly picked all 32 games in the first round. But one good thing that did come out of my bracket is that none of my Sweet 16 picks have been eliminated yet and I’m positive that it is the first time I’ve ever accomplished that.
The second round tips off tomorrow at 11am.

I would love to see Gonzaga take it.
