Group C: USA 1 - England 1

June 12, 2010 at 3:40pm By: D.M.B. Posted in D.M.B. Sports Report

The US tied England 1-1 in their World Cup opener in Group C to take 1 point. US got VERY lucky in their goal after they gave up a goal in the 4th minute. Clint Dempsey sent an easy ball towards the England goalkeeper that skipped away at the last minute and found the net in the 40th minute. Going into the World Cup, the US absolutely would have taken a draw in their opening match against a tough England team.

The other two teams in Group C (Slovenia & Algeria) play their first match tomorrow morning. It will be very interesting to see the outcome of that match. Slovenia is the favorite but if either team comes away with a victory, they would take control of group C.

The US plays next against Slovenia on June 18th at 10am

Mr. T says What a howler for that June 12, 2010 at 5:51pm

What a howler for that kid who was GK’ing for England. They never fail to disappoint, and it looks like they might keep him if Gerrard’s post-game comments are any indicator.

Germany v Australia tomorrow afternoon. Although I’m supporting all the Asian League teams this tournament (including North Korea), I’m a bigger supporter of Germany. This might be one of the better games so far.

D.M.B. says I didn't see the goal, June 12, 2010 at 7:16pm

I didn’t see the goal, I just saw on ESPN mobile as I was driving home “England mistake gives US tie in 40th minute” I came home and got to see the last 5 mins of regular time and all of extra time. And then they played the highlight I was like...you gotta be kidding.

Its amazing that if that was a US goalie it would be like...oh well. Yeah its sad but it really wouldn’t be that big a deal. In England...oh man. If they don’t make the knockout stage…
