Gator Bowl news
Nebraska is all but locked up in the Gator Bowl like I said yesterday but the opponent is looking a bit different than it did yesterday. It seems that Florida State is out and Clemson is in.
More on the Tigers when it becomes official.

Just wanted to remind folks of what someone (cough, cough) here predicted on August 27th:
“Get your predictions in now… let’s reflect in January after the bowl season! I say 8-4 regular season, plus a bowl win.”
Someone asked how, to which I replied:
“I will throw my reasonings into the hat. Not trying to look with Husker-colored glasses. We have 8 games at home. That bodes well for us. We have 5 games against highly ranked teams. I think we can win one of those 5, lose the other 4, but win every other game on the schedule (most of which are at home). I think we end up in a bowl like the Independence Bowl, and I see us being able to win that. I am not predicting miracles, but I think this defense will be a lot better, allowing us to do on offense more that we *want* to do (a la RUN) and less of what we *have* to do (for example, passing since we’re down by 32 points).
As for the losses, I see us being pretty competitive with everyone we play, and when we lose, we lose by much smaller margins than last season.”
Okay, save for Oklahoma that was pretty accurate stuff. I am sorry I underestimated what the bowl game would be. Of the then-top 25 teams on the schedule, we did indeed beat 1 and lose 4. Two losses were very close. Missouri was not great, and OU was a blowout. However, OU just blew out the #2 team in the country by more than they blew us out. They’ve scored 60 points or more 4 games in a row, but no one scored as many as we did on them in that run. They could be the National Champs.
I predict a bowl win and a 9-4 record, followed by massive expectations in 2009.

Indeed Fletch, you were right on the button with that prediction.
I was thinking much along the same lines you were (7-5, 8-4 regular season). The Kansas game was the other worry some game before the season, as was the Colorado game.
How close are we though to a 10 win season right now. The nail biter in Lubbock and a very winnable Virginia Tech game. We play Virgina Tech game we win by 14 points.

I agree. There will be larger expectations next year - although the schedule may not be quite as favorable. On the road at Va Tech. We do get OU in our house. Mizzou will be there, and certainly they will be down - losing the QB, Offensive Coordinator, and a lot of senior talent. Could be winnable. we’ll have Texas Tech at home. Will Leach still be their coach?
We’ll have another year of this staff, but we’ll have a new QB, and this is a tough conference for first-year QB’s. Will folks expect 10 wins and a trip to the Big 12 game? I can see the latter being true. Not sure about 10 wins in the regular season.
D.M.B. says Best case scenario...I see 11 December 3, 2008 at 10:32pm
Best case scenario...I see 11 wins there. Outside the Oklahoma game, every one of those games is winnable. Best case scenario Missouri is down, TTech is down (if Leach is gone), and Virginia Tech is a push.
Worst case scenario...I see 8 wins.
