Game 3: Nebraska 7 Pittsburgh 6

Let’s get one thing straight, we are 3-0 going into our bye week and the Big 12 slate.  After 5-6 last year, every Nebraska Cornhusker fan or “Husker Nation” needs to be thankful for EVERY SINGLE WIN!

That being said, we’re not a good football team.  I really don’t like saying that because the defence is just out of this world.  And I don’t like mixing them into the whole mix but, it is a team game.  And we’re not a good team.  Our offence isn’t good.  But read this, and believe it...IT. IS. NOT. ZACH. TAYLORS. FAULT.  PERIOD!!!!!!!!  He is doing EVERYTHING in his power to move this offence.  Our offencive line is horrible.  They can’t block and it took Pittsburgh a little wile to figure that out.  They actually looked good in the first quarter but it got worse from then on.  Our weakness on offence is our offensive line, and unfortunatly if that doesn’t work, nothing works.  If your running back isn’t good, you pass more.  If your recievers drop balls, you run more.  When a QB has no time to pass, and a RB has no holes to run through, you can’t do anything.  Again let me say, IT. IS. NOT. ZACH. TAYLOR’S. FAULT. PERIOD!  Putting Joe Ganz in will not help (see last year when people were calling for Joe Dailey to sit in favor of Beau Davis, yeah that worked well in the Texas Tech game) Harrison Beck is not ready, or he would be the back up.  Even if Beck was the clear cut #2 QB, he is not ready for Big 12 football.  If he was ready for Big 12 football, he’d be starting.  Zach Taylor is our starter for the Iowa St. game in two weeks.  One last word on the offence, no matter what Cody Glenn does (he should be our short yard back though) Cory Ross is amazing.  The man amazes me every time he plays.

Defence once again was OUT-STANDING.  Every time they needed a stop they got it, every time th
ey needed a play made they made it.  The front 4 was unreal today.  They are bringing back memories of blackshirt defences of the mid and late 90’s.  If I remember correctly, they were pretty good D’s.  They went up against a good QB and a fantastic freshman RB today and were up to the challenge.

Special teams were good once again.  Two blocked FG’s (including the game winner), a big punt return.  And Sam FREAKIN Koch.  86 yard punt?!?!?!?!  That’s insane.  I’m not gonna give Koch a lot of credit though cause he had two AWFUL punts near the end of the game that gave Pitt good field position.

Now, the bye week.  And ISU comes to town in two weeks.  ISU will be 3-0 (if they beat Army, like that will be hard) when they come into town.  It will be an ABC game.  Now that won’t be set in stone till late next week or early the week of but I can’t imagine ABC passing a game like that up between two undefeated rivals.  Hang onto your butts people cause ISU will be the best team we’ve seen yet *shudder* did I really just say that?  And you know they would like nothing better than to come into our house send Husker Nation into turmoil.

I watched the game on TV. I am not a huskers fan or a big college football fan, but I thought both teams did pretty dreadful, with the exception of Cory Ross as you mention. When the Pitt holder was looking the other way and got hit in the helmet by the ball during the second to the last field goal attempt, it struck me as being pretty pathetic. Just observing, there seemed to be some structural issues as well with overall coordination. From time to time players (on the husker side) didn’t seem to know whether or not they should even be on the field!
