College World Series

It’s that time of year again where all eyes of collegiate sports is on Omaha.  It always amazes me in the weeks leading up to the CWS when you here the players saying..."it’s all about Omaha.” “There’s nothing like Omaha.” These guys are trying to get closer to Omaha...I’m trying to get further away.  Here are this years participants:

Friday matches:
#1 Clemson vs. #8 Georgia Tech - 1pm ESPN2

#4 Cal St. Fullerton vs. North Carolina - 6pm ESPN2

Saturday matches:
#2 Rice vs. #7 Georgia - 1pm ESPN

Miami vs. Oregon St. - 6pm ESPN

The 4 teams that play on the same day are now in essentially a 4 team tournament.  No team can face a team on the other side of the bracket until the championship series which is best 2 out of 3.

Of course your favorites will be Clemson and Rice.  Cal St. Fullerton will also have a good shot at making a run to the title game.  My dark horse though is North Carolina.  They proved in the super regional that they can really put up some runs.  In terms of pitching though they probably aren’t going to stand up to some of the big boys.  Miami is very well rested.  Oregon St. could surprise some people too.

If you have never been to the CWS, do yourself a favor get a general admission ticket to a night game.  Arrive to the ballpark just as the first game ends.  Don’t pay to park near the stadium, find free parking.  Walk to the stadium and enjoy all the people and smells that is the CWS.  It is truly one of the best events anywhere at anytime in Nebraska.  It truly is the “greatest show on dirt.”
