Beaver Fever
Your 2006 college baseball champions are the Oregon St. Beavers. OSU defeated North Carolina 3-2 in Monday’s deciding game 3. Oregon St. lost game 1 on Saturday 3-2 but came back and won game 2 on Sunday 11-7. Oregon St. scored the winning run on North Carolina second baseman Bryan Steed’s throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning. Plagued by errors the final one finally caught up to the Heels.
This is obviously Oregon St.’s first national title in baseball in the history of their program. They are the first Pac 10 team to win the title since 1995 when USC won it all. Ironically enough that was the last time a team won the national title after losing their first game in Omaha. This is only the schools second ever NCAA title. Their only other one came back in 1961 as their Cross Country team took home the title.
The last time a team won a national title from this far north was Minnesota in 1964 and the last non-traditional power to win it since Wichita St. in 1989.
Let’s track Oregon St. “Road to Omaha:”
