Barry Bonds: sham or legend?

My favorite sport, by far, is baseball.  Football is a close second, but baseball is my favorite.  With the MLB season underway last night, there is one person looming over all of baseball. Barry Bonds. The slugger is only 6 home runs away tying Babe Ruth and 47 away from tying the home run king, Hank Aaron. But with the steroid issue at hand (and an investigation about to begin) the over-riding question is, is Barry legit? Let’s get one fact straight, Barry Bonds has never tested positive for steroids. Barry has certainly been tested after baseball instituted their steroid ban over 2 years ago and he has never failed a test. His connections toBalco and Victor Conte are well documented. His body transformation is well documented. But the #1 question is, “does Barry Bonds deserve to be the holder of the home run title?” My answer is a reluctant yes. If Barry did take steroids, he broke no rules.MLB had no testing policy so there for it was “legal” to take performance enhancing products.  MLB benefited greatly by the home run chase of McGwire and Sosa in 98, it brought the game back from their strike in 94. And now they are going after Barry. Unfair I say. Barry may rub people the wrong way and he does have an ample amount of arrogance but there is no denying that he is a great hitter and should be considered one of the greats of all time.

It just seems odd to have this half-man/half-bull creature overtake Hank Aaron’s record - who obviously didn’t use steroids (to my knowledge).
