The Thread That Ties us Together

November 30, 2007 at 3:00pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

I have a little mini-poll for you folks: I am currently wrapping up a little add-on for ExpressionEngine (the software that runs this site) that enables “threaded” (aka “nested”) comments. That is, it allows you to reply to comments. Thus, rather than a simple date-ordered display of comments, you get something like this:

Comment
  Retort #1
    Counter-retort
  Retort #2
    Insinuation that retorter smells funny
      Denial of malodor
... and so on

I would like to know if you folks think we should give that a try here on Lincolnite. I’m not going to state a preference one way or the other because I don’t have a preference one way or the other. Besides, I’m not the one doing all of the commenting around here, you are. If there are feelings for or against the idea, I’d love to hear them. And if you just don’t give a darn, I’d like to hear that, too.

This one is for DMB

Ice!

Sounds like a good weekend to stay inside and do some scouting.

Off the Edge

November 30, 2007 at 2:35pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

I’m disappointed to hear that Back to the Bible’s Edge64 has closed. Actually, it apparently closed a couple months ago. The concept—a concert facility and coffee house for teens—sounded neat to me. The location definitely could have been better, though.

Everybody Loves a Parade

November 30, 2007 at 2:30pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

Ahh, nothing like a little sleet and rain in the forecast to remind us all that it’s Star City Holiday Parade time. Who plans to go tomorrow? I would love to take Robbie, but we won’t go if it’s going to be wet. We can manage the cold, but cold and wet just isn’t going to happen.

I marched in several SCHPs, back in the day. I remember when I used to think the parade was long. Ha! Then I went to the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and I thought that was long. Ha! Then I went to the Rose Bowl Parade. That is a long parade.

A Collector’s Dream

Lincoln City Libraries is auctioning off old magazines. You can inspect the offerings today and tomorrow from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Bids are due tomorrow. Right now, only titles in the A-H range are up for grabs. Too bad. I guess I won’t be picking up old issues Ranger Rick to bring back some elementary school memories.

The Best Chinese Restaurant in Lincoln

November 29, 2007 at 2:30pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

Nebraska basketball player Shang Ping has found the best Chinese restaurant around. Unfortunately, the article doesn’t say where it is. Speculate away, but I suspect we can cross Egg Roll King right off the list.

This Robin is in No Mood to Sing

November 28, 2007 at 3:14pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

City Councilwoman Robin Eschliman sure comes across as cranky in today’s Deena Winter column. Or maybe it’s just me. In any event, Ms. Eschliman’s suggestion that the city’s union employees be forced to give to United Way is hardly rational. The best way to encourage charity and goodwill is certainly not to mandate it.

Economic Consolation

November 28, 2007 at 3:00pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

OK, so you didn’t make the megamillions investing in real estate in Lincoln that you could have made in, say, Vegas. At least you can take solace in knowing that Lincoln’s economy is expected to keep on growing, while lots of folks elsewhere are in for a heck of a time.

Family Time at The Keg

November 27, 2007 at 2:39pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

Chief Casady pointed out an amusing contrast between the “family”-style gathering of regulars at The Keg, and the aftermath later that night. Isn’t irony grand?

That’s One Lucky Family

November 27, 2007 at 2:32pm By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

Trang Nguyen is darn lucky he’s still alive after re-entering a burning building to rescue his son. Those stories seem like they almost never end well. Thank goodness this one came out ok. In fact, none of the family members even had to go to the hospital.

Sure, their house is gone, as are most of their possessions. But considering the family easily could have been without a dad and brother, they’re awfully lucky.

Let’s Get Physical

Anybody know anything about Star City Boot Camp? Apparently it is:

A four-week outdoor program of fitness instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training. You will be inspired and have fun while participating in a fantastic workout led by Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer, Jody Berg. Each day, camp will be one hour in length starting at 5:45 am.

Unfortunately, it’s just for women. Not that I’m looking to participate in a fitness program right now, but even before I heard about SCBC I had always thought a boot camp-style training program could be a lot of fun. I’m sort of weird that way.

If anybody has participated in the program or knows somebody who has, I would enjoy hearing your thoughts on the program.

The Peacock Struts its Stuff

November 27, 2007 at 3:45am By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

The Missus tells me she saw a billboard tonight announcing that The Peacock, a new Indian restaurant, is open in the strip mall on the southeast corner of 27th and Pine Lake. Can anybody confirm that? If true, we may give it a try either on Wednesday or over the weekend.
