You Name It

December 6, 2011 at 8:20am By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

Now’s your last chance to guess the name of Lincoln’s Haymarket Arena because an announcement will be made at 10:00am. Jack Mitchel is reporting that it’s a local business, although my understanding that that’s based on hearsay rather than anything solid.

So who do you think it is? Some of my guesses include:

  • Pinnacle Bank
  • Union Bank
  • Nelnet
  • ConAgra
  • BNSF
  • Bryan LGH

I could go on—I haven’t mentioned any insurance companies, for example. What are your guesses, serious or otherwise?

UPDATE: Hey what do you know? My first guess was right! Pinnacle Bank Arena is the new name. Commence celebration and/or whining.

Runza? Ameritas? NBC Bank? Empyrean? The Brass Rail?

Nelnet was top of my mind. I suggest Scooters Center to Jack Mitchell yesterday.

Hopefully it’s not Valentino’s or Runza or something silly.

I could see First National Bank (FNB) making a play for it.

Verizon loves to name these things, but they have a few already, I think.

What about Kawasaki?

Runza. Games will be played in The Bun.

Nah, The Oven. That’ll allow commentators to say things like:

“Somebody must’ve turned on The Oven because the Huskers are heating up!”

George says I really wish they would December 6, 2011 at 11:58am

I really wish they would just give it a generic name.  Generic names don’t require renaming when the “sponsor” is bought out by someone else, or goes out of business.  I mean.. Bob Devaney died in 97 and we didn’t have to rename that sports complex.

Fletch says True, but generic names don't December 7, 2011 at 9:59am

True, but generic names don’t bring in a $11.5 million windfall, either.
