Where Am I?

By: Mr. Wilson on August 22, 2006
  1. It's Friday at Noon. There's a colorfully-adorned man serving people outside. I look over my options and choose the one with M&M's -- my favorite. Where am I?
  2. I smell onion rings. Boys are playing basketball on the fenced-in court behind me. There's a neat old church catty corner from me. I see some signs written en español. Where am I?
  3. There's a game tomorrow. The people standing on chairs are wearing red shoes. Hey look, it's Chris Fowler! It sure is crowded in here. Where am I?
  4. I'm standing in a long hallway. All sorts of people from all walks of life head to their rooms. He wants to be a mechanic. She, a chef. And that older lady there? She's a quilter. Where am I?
  5. The flowers here are very pretty. I want to play in the water, but something tells me that's not allowed. I'm at a fork in the path; I take my equipment and turn toward the high road. Where am I?

1. The Cookie Factory/Company?

2. Runza on 13th Street

2. SW corner of 13th and F

I have some vague guesses about the others, but I’ll keep those to myself for now.

I thought no one had guessed yet until I clicked on the comments bubble to add my own guesses, which revealed the two previous comments.  You may want to check the your “# of comments” code for the new layout.

Now that’s interesting. I wonder why it thinks there are 0 comments on this post, but it’s calculating the comments correctly on other posts? Very curious indeed…

Maybe it’s developed an attitude and doesn’t think those are worthy of the term “comments.” The code scoffs at your guesses!

Hmph, well, comment problems aside, you folks have done fairly well:

1. The Cookie Company is correct (foxspit)
2. I was going for the F Street Recreation Center, but the two answers posted so far are close enough (foxspit, MattF)
3. Misty’s is correct (foxspit)
4. No guesses so far
5. Sunken Gardens is not correct, although I admit I accidentally made the clue a little too close to SG.

Keep trying on #4 and #5!

#5 Is it the park right across the street from sunken gardens?  just to the east?

4 could be a number of places. How about SECC?

Southeast Community College is indeed what I was going for on #4. Good job, T!

That just leaves #5.

It is driving me nuts that I can’t figure out #5.  Could it be on the bike path, as you come up from under the S 27th St & Capitol Parkway “bridge”, next to the botanical gardens?  If so, the “equipment” would be a bicycle, perhaps?  (If not, the word “equipment” makes me think it’s a golf course, about which I would have no clue.)

My first thought was the same as Sarah’s. If not, how about the trail at Pioneer’s Park separating the golf course (ie the reference to the equipment), which leads to the “upper”/northern areas of the park? Yeah thats gotta be right.

Sarah and Mr. T, you’re on the right track. Is it time for a clue? Here’s a sentence I almost included but decided to leave out:

In the background, I hear an occasional ping.

Hmmm.  Could be Holmes Lake, could be Pioneer Park.  I’m going with Pioneer Park where there’s water, trails and a great public golf course.

Nope, not Holmes Lake or Pioneers Park…

I believe it is the miniature golf course to the southwest of S 56th St & Old Cheney Rd?  (The “ping” would be the metal bats at the batting cages, making a hit!)

Yup! Adventure Golf Center is what I was going for. Although when I created the clue I was thinking that only one of the two courses went up the “mountain”, but now that I think about it both of them go up. One of them just goes a little higher. That’s more ambiguous than I meant to be.

In any event, that’s the fifth and final answer. Good job, all!
