What’d You Call Me?

By: Mr. Wilson on February 28, 2011
The Journal Star has a story this morning that takes a look at what businesses are calling the 2% occupation tax that will help pay for the arena. The answers they found were pretty boring: "restaurant tax"; "arena tax"; "occupation tax". Have any of you found a business that lists the tax with a not-so-favorable name in a subtle and passive-aggressive stab at the tax? I've checked my receipts, but so far I haven't seen any examples of creatively annoyed businesses. Are there any out there?

I haven’t seen anyone no.. but I have used a couple colorful words to describe it.

Not coincidentally, I haven’t patronized a Lincoln restaurant since the tax went into effect.  If I remember correctly from the media coverage of the arena vote, all restaurant owners were in favor of the arena.  So I can’t think of any reason why they’d want take a dig at the tax. After all, it’s saving Lincoln from becoming Topeka.

My opportunities to visit Lincoln restaurants has significantly decreased, but I’m still there about once a week.
