Weekend Wrap-Up

By: Mr. Wilson on December 27, 2010
It was a lovely weekend at 625 Elm Street. Some highlights:
  • I've never heard so many sincere "This is so cool!"s in my life. The boys were well gifted.
  • I thank all of you who contributed in some way to any of the various toy drives around Lincoln. Now that our foster boys were recipients, I've been on both the giving and receiving ends. As a giver, I always wished I could see the recipient open the gift. This year I wish I could have seen the boys thank the givers.
  • The Wilsons got a Wii this year. Much fun has been had already. Unfortunately, I'm just as inconsistent in video game bowling as in real bowling.
  • Imaginext playsets are awesome for boys. We already knew that, but this Christmas confirmed it. The past couple days have been filled with hour after hour of "Let's pretend ...". Mission accomplished.
  • We watched Polar Express last night, a movie that's far better in theory than in practice. While watching, Robbie said "Hey, that looks like Harry Potter's train. Except the Harry Potter engine is red." Now, this was surprising. To my knowledge Robbie has never mentioned Harry Potter before, and I've never seen him be exposed to Harry Potter's world. So I asked, "Oh yeah? How do you know what color the engine is in Harry Potter?" His answer floored me. He said, "Because I saw it on a poster in the bathroom in the lodge at Fort Robinson." According to him he remembers the color of the engine from a poster he saw once while on vacation 18 months ago shortly after he turned 3. Nice memory, kid.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Interesting, let us know how the thing goes with the home visit.

My holiday was sort of strange and dissapointing but not unenjoyable. I ended up in the Twin Cities when I was planning on going to Chicago. We drove up there on Friday morning from Central Iowa and got caught in a pretty significant storm as well, although probably not as bad as what’s been going through Nebraska. Its a long story. Basically I ended up spending a lot of time on the road.

I forgot to bring my digital camera to the in-laws’ place Thanksgiving Day. Even then, the mom didn’t make her jello and shrimp salad for some reason. We ate dinner, played Mexican Train dominoes, and then I fell asleep while we watched some goofy CSI episode having to do with some guy who ate so much food he died or something like that.

Anyway glad to hear you had a good holiday Mr. Wilson. Now we get to enjoy listening to Christmas songs 24-7 wherever we go for the next month. Yay.

Oops, sorry, it was Jell-O and shrimp, not Jell-O and carrots. The latter was something The Missus told me about.

Mexican Train dominoes?!

Mexican Train dominoes is one of the most variations of dominoes. Yeah the name is dumb and I have no idea how the name came to be.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I also spent most of Friday afternoon playing “Medal of Honor: European Tour” with my brother and his friends on his ps2. (I know that the real name of the game is “Medal of Honor: European Assault” but for some reason my dumb-ass brother seriously thinks its called “Medal of Honor: European Tour” like the game is named after some rock concert and not ww2).

They were lumpy.  I hate grandma’s mashed potatos.  The best mashed potatos I’ve ever had were the dried ones that come out of a box.  We called em fake mashed potatos.  They’re light and fluffy and about 100x better than grandma’s.

Wait wait wait…boxed mashed potatoes are better than your grandma’s mashed potatoes? That’s just sad.

It’s true.  They looked like oatmeal out of the box.  Little flake type things…and water and *poof* fake mashed potatos.  They were AWESOME.  Compared to grandmas anyway.
