Thr Ot 2 B A Law

By: Mr. Wilson on March 30, 2007
The Journal Star editors think texting should be banned while driving. But why a law specifically targeting texting? It is already illegal to be IWD (idiot while driving). Do we really need myriad individual laws for the huge list of ways one can be an idiot behind the wheel?

Part of it might have to do with the fact that the bill proposed last time around to ban talking on cell phones while driving specifically allowed texting while driving. Maybe they just want to be thorough to cover for the Idiot While Legislating.

This legislature is a piece of work. I am for this law I guess, but don’t we have bigger fish to fry? Let’s take all of one session to get rid of elementary only schools, then come back the next year to allow them. Let’s waste tons of time to enact a statewide smoking ban, but let’s be sure it has no teeth so any jurisdiction can just bow out of it anyway.  That’s why these people don’t deserve any more money than they get paid. I would think sitting through that day after day would be enough to make you drink and drive. Er, nevermind…

No one complained when they enacted a CCW law with no teeth, so I don’t see what the big fuss is over a smoking ban that is impotent.  (And for those who want to point out what the big fuss is, I was being sarcastic).

Fletch is right, we have bigger fish to fry.  I’d like to see them spend more time thinking about/talking about/passing legislation that can actually be enforced.
