The State of the State

By: Mr. Wilson on June 4, 2007
Looks like the State Theatre has officially opened, with 300 and Grindhouse the first two offerings. I don't think I will be able to get there for a while, so if any of you are up for writing a couple paragraphs (or more?) about it, let me know.

hmmmm I can post what others have said about it.

first their site www.statemovietheatre.com

two posts from the SCS message board

Pricing:
the wine was $7 a glass with only one option, hopefully the selection will grow a bit. beer selection was better and a slightly better deal at $4.25

the pizza was $4.25 a slice and pretty good but honestly yia yia’s is better in my book (and i have a book*) and slightly cheaper and right next door.

there is a bar right in the screening area so it was easy to get up and grab a drink without missing anything. thats nice but if the place is packed i’d be worried that it might be disruptive. I sat up at the couches and so said bar was behind me but if you are in the back area all the movement at the bar might be annoying.

and a review from a guy who got to go the day before they opened:

FOOD/BEER:

they carried about six different fancy beers at the bar. they will probably have more to choose from in the future i would imagine. i remember seeing warsteiner and several others listed, but once i saw that they offered “Small Batch 471” IPA from Breckenridge Brewery, i knew what i was drinking the rest of the night. i ate some awesome spinach and artichoke pizza and also some kind of hawaiian pizza. i’m sure they will have much more to choose from once they are officially open.

SEATING:

so, the three distinct seating areas is a pretty cool idea. i sat in the couch area up front and highly recommend it. small tables at the side of every couch is a plus. the middle bar area is quite convenient. seating at the bar and also at tall tables with bar stools surrounding it. the upper levels seem to have their own speakers up there and also have the tall tables and bar stools. i didn’t make it up there, but it looked pretty cool.

ATMOSPHERE:

so, i would imagine that anywhere in the house is a good seat. the layout is great. at first i kept hearing the bartender running water and scooping ice, but i zoned it out after a while. same with the quiet conversations happening at the bar area. it bothered me a little for a couple minutes, but then i remembered the situation and it didn’t bother me anymore. yes, you will hear some background chatter and some bar noise, but it is not that bad and the fact that you do get to drink beers and eat something other than popcorn/sugar makes it all better.

OWNERS:

super cool. open to any ideas and suggestions. great people with a great idea. again, feel free to suggest things to them. they said they would get the website updated since there are people begging to see a web page for the theater.
