The Case of the S

By: Mr. Wilson on December 16, 2010
Did you ever notice that there are a few street signs that say "Pioneer Blvd" rather than "Pioneers Blvd"? I don't know what my point is. Considering how much I drive (and run) along the street I guess it has just always bugged me. It seems like there are fewer sans-s signs than there used to be. Perhaps they're slowly being replaced. Have you noticed any other situations like that around town?

That one has bugged us for years, too.

Never noticed it before.  Now, I too will be annoyed by it. 😊

p.s. I have a friend who reads street signs out loud and when he sees “Blvd” he pronounces it beloved.  Say that to yourself a few times and you will be much calmer.

Ever ride the MoPac to Eagle?  Watch out crossing 202th St.

This has bothered me for a long time as well.

My latest pet peeve: I was looking at the LPS website this week, looking for something on the list of elementary schools. In two cases, Zemen, and another one that escapes me, there is a note adjacent to the school info discussing how each is in a temporary home, and each will move back to “it’s” permanent building next school year.

SERIOUSLY? This is the website for the educators and education system in this town, and they cannot properly use the word “its”? How do they expect kids to learn properly? (I’d give them a less than stellar grade, but I still don’t understand the grading system they use.)

This is why some of these kids will graduate, attend some college, and go to work for the Journal Star where they can continue to butcher the English language and not use it’s or its correctly, either.

Its not a big deal. Perhaps there mistake has a innocent explanation. I don’t know why your so bothered about it. You grammer nazi’s are to picky sometimes.

Oh, and Muphry’s Law struck you. Zeman is spelled with an ‘a’. 😊

I’m going to start doing that and see if my family notices. 😊

Love it.

Dang. I knew I should have pulled up the list before I typed that out. I know how to spell Humann, Maxey, and Cavett and Calvert, some or all of which we did or should have had involvement with. I think I know Zeman has an A, too. LOL

Good, because I was thinking he meant that as another place where there was a missing S, which would likely be result in a different direction for this discussion.
