The Anti-Solution
You’ve got to love Senator Phil Erdman’s attitude toward finding a solution to the State Fair / UNL Research Park problem. He has said that if UNL and the Fair Board don’t come up with something by February 26, he will pursue a solution that “may not be to anyone’s benefit”. Translation: if other people can’t solve the problem for themselves, then Sen. Erdman will come to the rescue with a complete anti-solution that’s sure to tick off everybody. Is that the legislative equivalent of turning the car around if the kids in the back seat don’t quit arguing?

is we get rid of Phil Erdman too. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a state senator so vocally and ambitiously dumb down the debate whenever a remotely complex issue comes up.
He’s also fond of shooting down political opponents by accusing them of auditioning for higher office. “Don’t listen to Tom White - he’s probably just running for congress!”

True enough. I’m not sure what the point of pursuing a solution that is “not to anyone’s benefit” would be.

Hahahaha ... if this was Ernie Chambers we’d be talking about how much of a genius he is. We’d be talking about how dedicated he is to making a difference. Also, no one plays the ‘auditioning for higher office’ card quite like Bruninghaters.

Erdman’s Feb. 26 deadline to come up with an idea is a little scary.
I hope he doesn’t offer a solution that “isn’t to anyone’s benefit” just to have something to offer at the Ag Committee’s public hearings. This is important enough to have quality discussions and ideas.
Not that I’m suggesting the wheel’s of government should slow down. It’s actually nice to see an element of urgency. But not when it comes with statement’s like Sen. Erdman’s.

I emailed Phil Erdman to give him a chance to clarify his comment. He gave me a very polite and professional reply this morning.
Here’s a quote since I doubt he would mind if I shared, “What I have said and may not have said as clearly or that may not have been reported as clearly is that a solution that the Legislature may be forced to provide may not be in everyone’s interest as a negotiated solution may be.”
Kudos to responsive public servants, regardless of their political affiliation.

Way to go Gene! Nice to have it straight from the source. I agree with Sen. Erdman, the negotiated solution could likely be more appealing than whatever medicine the Legislature may come up with.
