Taco Bueno is Coming to Town

Taco Bueno is coming to Lincoln. I noticed last weekend that a building on N 27th. St. (near Wal-Mart) that could only be a Mexican fast-food restaurant was nearing completion. A quick Internet search confirmed that it will be a Taco Bueno. In other taco news, King Taco is (supposedly) coming to the former Taco Inn on Highway 2 / 9th Street / 10th Street / whatever that street is called just south of Van Dorn. It has been "coming soon" for a while now.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
I was just bemoaning our lack of a Taco Bueno the other. (Taco Bueno isn’t the best thing ever, but it’s pretty good for the price.)
Thank God, more Mexican restaurants are on the way.
Actually, these two will replace the now-defunct Arturo’s and the Taco Del Mar at 27th and Pine Lake Road. Did the Taco Del Mar downtown stay open?
I can never have too much Mexican food. 😊 I swear, lately I’ve been craving it every other day…
The Taco Del Mar at 27th and Pine Lake has a new Little Caesar’s sign on the front but I don’t think it has ever opened. I really miss the Taco Del Mar at that location so I’m really happy to read Fletch’s comment. Yeah, the downtown Taco Del Mar is still open.
King Taco has been “coming soon” on Highway 2 for several months. I’m guessing it’s not going to happen at that location.
I think there were two probs with the Taco Del Mar at 27th and Pine Lake:
1) The exposure on that side of the building is really stinky.
2) Why put it essentially across the street from a Chipotle? I know most readers of this space abhor the “chains”, but that Chipotle already has a couple year headstart, easier parking and visibility, and a more well-known name. Why put an unknown right there and try to do battle?
My wife and I had been hoping for a Breada (Spelling?) Restaurant where Taco Bueno is going. We were a little said to hear that another taco place was going in there. We have plenty in that area how about something new. But after looking at their site and talking to some people it sounds like it might be worth trying out.
King Taco definitely has been coming soon for a long time, but the realty For Sale sign has remained the entire time. Doesn’t make sense to me.
I noticed this weekend that the sign has a “price reduced” sticker on it. I don’t think that’s always been there, which makes me wonder if the King Taco thing fell through.
Speaking of that nape of the neck, do they still plan to put a Starbucks on Van Dorn between ninth and 10th streets?
this would be so much better if someone opened a del taco. I mean, if you’re going to open a chain, why not a good one.
My Texas friends have good things to say about Taco Bueno, and they’re not exactly lacking in taco options down there. (Likewise, my California friends have a favorable opinion of Del Taco.)
Regardless of your opinion on Taco Bueno, hopefully we can all agree that Taco Del Mar is terrible. Honestly, I’m surprised that the downtown location is still open. I walk by it during lunch several times a week; I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen more than 3-4 customers inside.
Swid, I would agree. I was excited about the Tace Del Mar opening at 27th and Pine Lake, and we tried it the first or second night. I was disappointed - I am a devoted Chipotle fan (I know, I don’t belong here) but the menu seemed to have more options and we thought it would be great. I don’t think we went again. Maybe once more, but not twice. Yet I can still make it once every week or two to Chipotle. I also think the Qdoba at Gateway is better. I tried Oso based on all the recommendations here at Lincolnite, but didn’t see what the big fuss was. It was good, but not enough to keep me from the barbacoa burrito at Chipotle as my standby.
Never tried Taco Bueno, but am looking forward to trying it. Actually, I like Taco Del Mar too and go there regularly. Another chain I like for cheap but tasty tacos is Taco Time.
I was wondering how Lincoln could support this many fast food ‘Mexican’ restaurants, but it looks like we have enough people here to do that alone.
As far as Mexican food goes, all I need is El Potrero, and occasionally the La Mexicana/Mazatlan/etc. suite of establishments. For my ‘Mexican’, all I need is Chipotle. I don’t mind Oso, but I have to add a few things and get the price to around $8 just to be full when I’m done.
The thought of the rest of the places mentioned here makes my stomach turn.
Let the speculation end ... just drove by the former Taco Inn on S. 10th on my way home for lunch. King Taco is open for business. Complete with realty For Sale/Price Reduced sign out front.
Thanks for clearing up the confusion meatball!
Ok if we are going to talk about mexican restaurants how can we be leaving out the cheap yet super delicious De’Leons
I like how, other than lengthy discussions about the LJS being a lefty rag or not, that often the longest threads here tend to be food related. Didn’t the pizza one go on and on? I think left or right, we can all agree that food is good. Personally, I was disappointed the first time I tried D’Leon’s, because all I had heard was that it’s the bees’ knees. I did recenly get out to the new La Paloma (very good) and tried El Potrero (excellent and way affordable). La Paz is also still a big hit at our place.
