Syruppy Fingers

Well thank goodness Lincoln's Village Inns aren't closing. No seriously. There just aren't that many breakfast options in Lincoln, and I love breakfast. Hmm, I wonder who has the best breakfast in Lincoln? I think a lot of folks would push for Stauffer's and Green Gateau. You've got your classic "healthy" (hah!) options at Hi-Way Diner and Shoemaker's. There are the Hy-Vee restaurants. And then of course there are the various Sunday brunches around town. Where do you go out for the best breakfast in Lincoln?

My wife goes to the Gateau every sat morning with her parents.  I used to go along and get the CFS.  The thing is ginormous and impossible to be eaten by a single person, but it is the best I have ever had.  I have stopped going though since I make breftest at home on weekends now and have really honed my hashbrown making and egg flipping skills.

Worked at VI for 4 years and could scare you from ever going there, but still love morning food there.

Oh can’t forget Grandmothers weekend brunch buffet.  Always packed and really good.

... meet for breakfast most Saturday mornings. Our rotation includes:
* Hiway Diner (huge portions)
* Tina’s (best hashbrowns in town)
* Village Inn

The second tier of our rotation is:
* Stauffer’s Cafe
* Virginia’s Travel Cafe

I’ll echo the Engine House and throw in a former haunt that we no longer use, because of proximity: The Grille Ville in UniPlace.

Don’t forget The Pantry near 48th & Van Dorn.

Beacon Hills Sunday brunch buffet is solid ... although I think the place is generally overrated, the brunch is worth the inflated price imho (i think it’s $13.95 or so?).

Cracker Barrel

Although we only go there a few times a year the food is always good and I like the ambiance.

1) Tina’s Cafe

2) Cracker Barrel, despite being averse to national chains.

I live just a few furlongs and I have never been there.  What are they famous for?

What is Tina’s famous for? Well certainly their hashbrowns, but I think their biscuits and gravy are top notch. Other than that, they do the standard breakfast fare, just cheaper and with better local kitschy ambiance.

Some folks swear by their huge, cheap cinnamon rolls, but I’ve tried them and found to be just “OK.”

I am a huge breakfast fan and totally agree with this.  I loved Kuhl’s and was really sad to see it go.  Without that, I hit Wilderness Ridge for brunch (very good and not too pricey).  Otherwise for the quick hit breakfast we just go to IHOP, but it’s not great.

I priced Wilderness Ridge’s brunch for Easter and it was quite expensive, I thought. Maybe their regular Sunday brunch is cheaper?

Can’t go wrong with Tina’s.
