Start Me Up

Have you ever wanted to get a business up and running in 54 hours? If so, Startup Weekend may be for you. The event is coming up soon, beginning September 7 at Avery Hall on the UNL campus. I'm not completely familiar with the concept, but it sounds simple enough: show up with an idea that you'll pitch to the group, the group works on the best ideas, then you pitch it again to local entrepreneurial leaders. Sounds like fun to me! I'd love to hear if any of you have ever participated in this sort of thing. How was it? Are any of you participating in this year's event in Lincoln?

I am attending and I’m pretty excited.  I don’t have a pitch for it but am going to be a part of the team and give what knowledge I have.  It’s an incredible opportunity for our community to have something like this.  With the organizers and coaches, you’re bound to learn something for your business.

I wish I could participate. Alas, I’ve already committed to ref soccer that weekend. I really do need to get involved in that sort of event, though. It would be good for me.

I went last year in Omaha. Overall it was a good experience. There are lots of ideas pitched - not just technology, but many of the ideas that were worked on were technology related (read Apps). If you have an idea to pitch, be realistic. Know what you need (Ios developer, android developer, UI, etc., and how you are going to do it. Otherwise, join up with a group and do whatever you can to help.
