Squatting

By: Mr. Wilson on July 7, 2010
Mike Grieger sounds like a schmuck. Apparently Mr. Grieger discovered that "Lincoln Traction Partners" and "Lincoln Sawmill Partners" were unregistered trade names in Nebraska, despite the fact that WRK was using the names to work with the City on a couple projects. So he did what any ethical person would do: he informed WRK of their mistake and encouraged them to register the names with the Secretary of State. Ha! Just kidding. No, instead he registered the names apparently with the primary intention of harassing WRK and the City with cease-and-desist letters. In other words he squatted on the names, much like domain squatters on the web. Stay classy, Mike Grieger.

I don’t applaud or condone the actions of Mike Grieger. However, this leads more credence to my theory that the WRK guys are a couple of buffoons.

Also, they are idiots for thinking that they reserve the right to fight for their name later. Any judge worth his/her salt will point out that if they didn’t fight for it when they first learned of the problem, that you cannot just change your mind and fight later.

I fear the majority of the WRK projects will never see the light of day. They strike me as dreamers, not so much as do-ers. I hope I am mistaken.

That’s a very fair point. They aren’t exactly pros at building public confidence in their company.

I just looked up “Mr. Wilson” turns out it’s not registered either. So I’ve decided to register “www.lincolnites.com” and use my newly registered name MR.Wilson ... You are in violation. Please take down your site in 24 hours. Thanks.

True, but it’s a shame that our city’s attorneys have to waste their time (and our money) dealing with this stupid crap on matters that are related to city business. It makes me think that the arena opponents really aren’t all that interested in saving taxpayer money so much as being right.
