Speaking of Police Cars

By: Mr. Wilson on February 7, 2011
10/11 did a story on LPD's new hybrid vehicles and how they're faring. The short version: they're faring well, getting between 27 and 40 miles per gallon. That's not bad when you consider LPD's fleet average is 12.7 miles per gallon. Seeing that story made me think about LPD's overall new look. New uniforms are being introduced, and thanks to a design competition, LPD's vehicles have a new look. Have you noticed the changes? Do you like them? I haven't seen the new uniforms so I can't provide much feedback there. As for the vehicles, I'm torn. I like the general idea of it -- simple black and white -- but something about it just doesn't quite feel complete. Unfortunately my design sense is woefully limited so that's about the best description I can offer. Style-fu is weak among the Wilsons. Perhaps one of you can help put my feelings into words.

I’m not a big fan of the new cars and haven’t seen the new uniforms. I’ve always appreciated that our patrol cars looked friendly in contrast to the mobile swat unit look that Omaha seems to enjoy. Now, between the style of car and the paint job I think ours look overly aggressive to the point of looking a little silly. I half expect a missile rack to pop out somewhere ala Airwolf.

I will differ. I like the new cars and the new color/decal schemes.

I really like the minimalism and clean design on the new cars… until I saw the “Leadership Performance Dedication” (LPD, get it?)  Too much cheese for me.
